why is his camp keeping quiet about any new work and/or a new video that comes out in less than a week? i'm afraid i just don't have the energy, patience, or time to be a diehard prince fan anymore. i like my music artists accessible, ya know?
message to prince: hire a pr team and save me the hassle of having to read stories everywhere except YOUR OWN WEBSITE. thanks.

If this song is available on iTunes then it basically is released as a single. iTunes sales count towards the charts, so if he releases it there and it sells well, it could be a hit regardless of airplay. INXS's new single "Pretty Vegas" debuted on the charts at no.37 solely based on iTunes downloads, so if Prince really pushes this it's possible. Heck, even "SST" sold well enough on iTunes, with no promotion and after all the hardcore fans got it from NPGMC, to reach no.111. I thought that sales on iTunes only count towards the singles charts provided there is also a CD single available in the stores. That used to be the rule, but Billboard changed their policy back around February. Kanye West's "Gold Digger" made a surprising 19-1 move after it was released to iTunes and sold 85,000 downloads. That was before airplay really kicked in, so it shot to no.1 based on download sales. So again, even with no airplay, I think Prince could at least make the Hot 100 with download sales.

He did the same with Musicology here in the UK, the video was being played, but the single release was delayed and delayed and the album lost impetus after a strong opening. the only "hard copy" singles i have from 'musicology' are the cinnamon girl singles...the good one was an import (the one with the live b-sides, etc.), and the other one with just the video was....well...i don't KNOW what that was... there was a "hard copy" musicology single in Europe released, with On the Couch as a B-side. I dont think he does. he probably just wants to make it into a download single. remember the download singles are included in charts aswell. i mean look at the group the Arctic Monkeys they went straight to number 1 for a few weeks in the UK last month by being download single only. i think it's a great way to do it. message to prince: hire a pr team and save me the hassle of having to read stories everywhere except YOUR OWN WEBSITE. thanks. I know right? With all these EXCITING new developments you'd think NPGMC would mention SOMETHING but it's dead as disco over there. It's like Prince is doing his own thing & someone forgot to tell them to update the website. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Well... he HAS stated that the next album was gonna be "for the fans"... so in that case it would make sense to make it available for download to NPGMC members first?

npgmc is more of a "new and exclusive" resource when it comes to music and merch that prince wants to throw at his fans, or when the sitemaster is able to post an old video clip (with permission from mr. purplepants, of course). due to the nature of its namesake, i don't think npgmc is capable of being competitive with regards to sharing news...it's sad, because it SHOULD be the source. but think about it - you gotta pay $25 just to SEE whatever news they may have, and stuff like the org or HQ is free for any ol' schmoe to access - so really, i don't know, it all kinda works out in some weird way...i guess.

I am still buzzing from the Musicology tour and am not surprised it took him a while to make another album. I bet the tour will be a few select dates here and then overseas. And I bet he does plenty of after-shows. I bet he plays somewhere New Year's Eve though.

i coulda sworn that they were pitching themselves as the lone source of official info when they first started up with the new incarnation of the club...nowadays it's nothing more than a cyber-purple kwik-e-mart with a weird little cafe attached on the side (aka the forums). i remember when you still had to pay $100 they were a bit better with dropping information on whatever new project prince was about to put out.

You can bet that this also means that our friend will be performing at the Grammys on February 8th. A perfect way to get the excitement going for both the new album and the tour.

it's prince. he likes to keep stuff rather hush-hush and cryptic, which can be a bother at times.

I think it's been known for a long time that if you want the latest news, go to sites like this where information is gathered before it even becomes 'official', not the npgmc who have to pretend they don't know anything about nothing until they are allowed by the boss to release the information. It seems to me that Prince has tried to keep the surprise of this project until the official announcement on the 13th, but even he can't stop bits and pieces of info, such as the info on this thread and the advert for the promo video exclusive on vh1, from leaking out. So I wonder whether the big announcement on the 13th is now simply going to be info we already have - the new single, the forthcoming album, the related stuff in the retail section, and a tour in 2006 - or whether there will be even more?
