Sirius-------Prince Channel??????

Don't get me wrong, I think Bruce Springsteen is a pretty talented guy!!! But..... I don't understand how Sirius Sat radio, can give him his own channel to play 24 hours of The Boss music!!!! His Library of music will never touch Prince, so why not devote a channel to the purple Man? Probably the whole Rights to play music thing etc. Anyway just wanted to sound off! Thanks.

My theory is that is has to do with the demographics of Bruce's fanbase.

There is also the Rolling Stones on Sirius. Maybe eventually we'll get Prince!
I am not sure what the criteria is that Sirius is using, cos' The Beatles don't have their own channel yet from them.

But got no love in return?
Did u understand the real meaning of love?
That it just is and never yearns"

I know from running NewPowerRadio if U are gonna play "X" amount of songs by an artist in "X" amount of time U need permission from that artist.

I found this out from "Live365.com" back in '99 when I first started my station...they shut me down for all the Prince I was playing. I was like "WTF?!"

They told me I needed to obtain a letter from Prince to continue.

So I imagine that goes with any artist and station.

Good Idea,

But remember Springsteen is a lot more fan friendly. He gave sirius the go ahead to play Fan recordings... These include a 9pm concert everynight and a Friday special show voted by fans. Also he allows alternate takes and outtakes to be played.

Prince IMO would never allow that. Shame since it really satisfies die hard fans.
Music is the best...

I sent the following e-mail to Sirius last year and got a response saying it was being forwared to higher ups...
I just sent it again today...and I'll probably re-post it over at NPGMC.
Prince would HAVE to be involved in-order for it to ever work .... but man could it ever work if he would just go for it!

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to start off by saying I've been a Sirius customer since around Christmas of 04 and I am totally pleased with the service and have become quite accustomed to the format. Thanks to all involved for their hard work and dedication.
On to the reason for my e-mail, Prince. Being an avid Prince fan one thing I was looking forward to hearing on satellite radio was more of Prince's music, not just more of the same ol' same ol' but more of his non-single tracks, more of his Jazz, more of his Funk, more of his Rock...but sadly I have heard none of this so far. To me, satellite radio is where it's at for an artist like Prince, who's been basically "blacklisted" by mainstream radio due to his contract disputes with Warner Bros. and his general "buck" of the system.
As a member of Prince's on-line music club (NPGMC.com) since it began, I've witnessed an on-going theme at the club and at concerts where he refers to "WNPG", a fictitious "radio" station. Almost like an "imagine if"...kind of thing...well I've been imagining if a WNPG actually existed on Sirius Satellite Radio and well, let's just say it has propelled me to write this e-mail. Maybe I'm just some crazy fan with a crazy thought but....maybe it's not so crazy. I think Prince could have his own channel on Sirius, that would play all of his works, including related artists and similar music. Now, I have NO industry experience and I will not pretend to know all of the legalities and complications that are involved with copyright laws and royalties and what have you....so maybe this half brained idea could never be a reality but I will leave that to the experts and proceed with high hopes.
Let me tell you about the VAST catalog of Prince and Prince related music that could fill up this channel.
Prince himself has 26 released albums to his name alone, not including The Hits/b-sides and the more recent (WB release) Greatest Hits collection. On top of that he has 5 NPG (his band) albums, to which his contribution is Very HIGH. Then there are 4 The Time albums, the first 2 were completely written and produced by Prince and the second 2 were mostly written and produced by Prince, there's also Vanity6 and Applonia6 albums both written and produced by Prince, as well as Sheila E's Glamorous Life, Romance 1600 and Sheila E albums and Mayte Garcia's album Child of the Sun. Jill Jones, The Family and Madhouse are all Prince collaborated albums too. Since his on-line music club began he has had 4 internet download only full album releases, 2 internet purchase only full album releases (one instrumental Jazz and one acoustic Piano and vocal) as well as 2 download only singles. In the second year of the club he produced 12 (one a month for a year) 1 hour long "ahdio" shows that featured un-released live jams, extended song versions and rare outtakes as well as featuring other artists such as Ani DiFranco, Jill Scott and many others. If that's not enough there are TONS of related artists that could be featured and or contribute including: Wendy and Lisa, Greasy Meal, George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Rhonda Smith, Lenny Kravitz, Chaka Chan, Rosie Gains, Candy Dulfer, Larry Graham, Miles Davis, Martika, Sheena Easton, Teana Marie, Andre Cymone, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Dr Fink, and Jesse Johnson among others. NONE of this even takes into account what an AWESOME live performer he is...as I'm sure you're well aware that Prince's Musicology Tour was the top grossing tour of 2004. Prince has recorded almost every single performance he has ever done....and has only released a tiny fraction of that to the public.....can you image satellite radio as his outlet??? Live...in studio performances!!! My knees get weak just thinking about it.
As you can see I could go on and on about this true music enigma that is Prince, he is MUSIC. As I said earlier in this e-mail I have no clue of the logistics of all this, nor do I have any idea if this is something Prince would even be interested in....all I know is he is virtually ignored by terrestrial radio and DESERVES more respect and attention.
I hope my e-mail wasn't so long that it wasn't read in it's entirety. If you've read this far I thank you so much for your time and consideration.

A Great Letter here:

Very well put Shorty...

Yeah, I think this would make me a subscriber, and damn quickly too!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
