I am glad to see more people coming around to the Lovesexy album. Along with The Rainbow Children, these are my two favorite albums. They are so underrated, but they really are the two best examples of what "album rock" is all about - where no one song really stands out, but the whole album shines. Thoughts?

You had me until you lumped Rainbow Children in with Lovesexy. The latter has always been one of my favorites and I like your point about it being what a rock album should be. I consider it a rock opera. It's almost symphonic with the nuance, mood, and changes of the title track, Anna Stesia, and Glam Slam.

As for RC, I can't listen to it. There is some truly remarkable music on it. But that voice-over drives me crazy. It's distracting, takes away from the music. It's annoyingly didactic and misogynistic. I hate it when artists "get religion". And what a bizarre religion P seems to espouse! I'm not sure what it does beyond fortifying his own ego and alienation.

I like all of Prince's FUN albums -- Lovesexy is at the top of that list, just under the electro-funkiness of 1999.

P.S. I'm a big fan of Lovesexy! Interesting to put it together with RC (which I'm NOT a fan of). Lovesexy can definitely be described as "spiritual," but of a very open sort. RC is, well, some other type of spirituality: much more dogmatic and dark. (Not to mention the misogynism, etc. and that damn voice! ).

Lovesexy is AWESOME! It is sooooo uplifting and positive and I simply love it! You can never go wrong with lovesexy! And I love that Prince love Jesus, it's so relieving, that in the "peak" of his career he would remember to stop and praise god!

I love them both. I actually like the the deep (godlike) voice. But I liked the NPG Operator, the Come poems and Exodus segues (which were quite comical) esp. the mash potatoe girl

Great album. I actually think it gets a little too much praise, but it is one of my favs from the 80's. In particular, Glam Slam, Dance On, When 2 R N Love, I Wish U Heaven, Lovesexy, Positivity(alright, I just listed almost all the album) are all really neat. The only one I don't care for is Eye No. Very uplifting, but I don't see it as being as explicitly religious as people say it is, aside from Eye No. I think Graffiti Bridge has the honor of being the most preachy album before Rainbow Chillen.

Oh, and he looked fabulous, totally glam during this period.
