To me,Prince sounds like he's scared of dying and going to Hell in Temptation.
In Anna Stesia(as well as most of the Lovesexy album),it sounds like he's at the end of his rope and is really ready to surrender his all to God.Not just to avoid Hell but to cherish all that God has blessed him with.

I have never got the feeling that Prince was scared of God. Instead I see him as a very convicted religious person who tries to explain how he sees God.

More like he's learned to respect the teachings for the right path to a better life.

i think that prince is afraid of God....

I think that all the things he has done in the past has him leading a life of fear. no matter how much he would like to believe it Prince is not a "Godly" man. there are many dark secrets in his past. he delt with many things outside of "love".

i think he is afraid most because he wouldn't reconize God if God was standing right in his face and that frightens prince because
God is the only one who can call prince out of this "existance" and prince considers himself highly protected and the fact that he can't reconize him means that he can be taken out at any given moment and not see it comming.

Jehovah's Witnesses always sound so comfortable with their faith to me, with all their talk about the end of the world closing in and persecuting individuals who have left the sect behind. Cosy.

Prince doesn't sound scared of God, especially now. He sounds more in awe of God. Proud of what God and his Son have done, what they're doing now, and what they have promised to do for mankind in the future.

judging from the way prince has changed his behavior and curtailed his more flamboyant tendencies (no more cussin', no more raunchy lyrics) in recent years..... i'd say he's more afraid of offending god now than ever before.

personally i think he's gone from feeling that god is unconditionally loving, open minded and accepting (lovesexy days) to fear of offending a conservative, judgmental god (today)

The fear you speak of is a reverential fear of displeasing God, not a fear of judgement. This is something that most Christians strive to demonstrate.
Prince has made changes in his behavior, but to me that's more of a reflection of one who's trying to practice that they preach rather than simply talk a good game.
