Minneapolis is GORGEOUS right now, and shouldn't get really cold for a few weeks yet. Here's a few spots off the top of my head:
First Avenue for sure, if you've never been. Two blocks from 1st Ave is Nicollet Mall, where Mary Tyler Moore tossed her hat in the opening credits of her show. There's a statue of her there now. Not Prince related, but kinda fun Cheapo Records on Lake Street in Uptown - Prince has been known to buy vinyl there, and I've seen Jellybean Johnson (the Time) there myself. It's a great record store, across the street from Calhoun Square. Paisley Park in Chanhassen, if you've got time for the drive. The Quest nightclub, used to be Glam Slam (I've not been there since Glam Slam closed tho). If I think of more I'll post! Jeff www.jeffreyanderson.blogspot.com

Minnesota has such an bad and over-exaggerated rap for cold crappy weather. I was in Mpls. today and it was about 63 degrees and sunny (however, it is unusually warm for us)
Not P related but the Mall of America (near the airport) is a must see if you have time. Downtown Mpls. is pretty cool and so is Uptown. Depending on when you're going there is a huge waterpark hotel (the biggest indoor waterpark in U.S.) that's about half completed. I'm guessing the rooms will be spendy tho. Hope you have a good time! Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

If you do go, stay at the Sofitel in Bloomington. About 20 to 25 minutes from Paisley Park and rent a car..... "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

You must pay homage to the venue of Minneapolis - 1st Avenue/7th Street. You will get to stand on the same stage where Prince sang the words to Purple Rain. The very stage!
Second, the Mall Of America. It's capitalism at it's best, but it's the single biggest tourest attraction in the world, and it gets 50 million people a year. The churches in St. Paul, just across the river (the mighty Mississippi). It's like stepping into another land. These are some of the oldest buildings in the midwest. Some of the record shops in MPLS - it's just a trip to see all the older music and different tastes that people have a thirst for. It's all a lot of white punk and such, but there are lots of other gems. Hennepin Ave. (kinda downtown) is a little scary to walk down at night, but take a walk on the wild side. The Gay 90s bar (if still open and the same kind of bar when I was there - 13 different stations inside, and a three-story (gay) bar - even if you're not gay, you'll enjoy this bar a lot. They dance like they know they're funky there. The Skywalk. This structure was designed to connect the buildings in downtown by a pathway, to protect the people from the harsh winter conditions of MPLS (Just as a hint, I stayed at the Hotel Amsterdam last time I stayed there. And it was mid-January (not tourist season), and about 3 at night, and I had to walk back to the hotel with my sweetie. When we got back, it was so cold that not even the walls could keep the cold out. BRRRR! You'll find that Minneapolis is one of America's best kept secrets, and you'll definitely enjoy yourself. As for Paisley Park and all, I have never gotten out there, but I plan to next time.
