But Bambi in the movie was a boy, so "Bambi, it's better with a man" could be taken as homoerotic, the other way, too.

yeah, but in real life, when people call someone a bambi, they usually refer to a young, innocent, virginal, jailbait-ish girl. At least as I've observed

Sure, but isn't that strange in itself? This stripper-pseudo-innocent name that's actually a boy's name.

Just cos the man likes to camp it up now and again in his lyrics and his videos (Gangsta Glam!! Arrrgh my eyes!!) dont mean he's gay! Jesus, who doesn't like to camp it up sometimes, I know I do and i'm certinly not gay.

And if he happens to appeal to the pink £ while he is doing it then all the better...he is a businessman after all... wink

Not much that's truly homoerotic. He's heteroerotic and very often omnierotic -- menaing you can bend the meaning cuz it's loose enough. But little that is ouright homoerotic.

Do Me Baby

One of my favourite Prince Ballads of all time but it always struck me as if he was singing it to a man.
Disclaimer: All statements below are IMHO

1) "Do Me Baby". Being "done" is normally being on the receiving end, submissive
2) "Give it to me until I just can't take no more". Again, IMHO is what someoene says who is on the reciving end not the giving. Yes, receiving head is a possibility, but intercourse seems more likely
3) "Help me. ok, ok. I'm so cold, just hold me" Ok, without sounding like a sexist pig, I just don't know to many guys who would say that to their girlfriend in bed. I do know lots of girls though who would say that after being doen until they can't take it no more.
4) He sings the entire song and then whimpers in a very feminine, (dare I say little bitch?) falsetto
5) He never mentions "girl" or any other term indicating he is with a woman.

Each one on its own is a little ambiguous, but I think when you put them all together, most straight guys would in their gut think he was singing to his male , dominant lover.

All in all I don't give a hoot who he is singing to, one of the prettiest melodies I think he has every written.

That's exactly how I was hearing the song when I first bought the album because he never uses any female references in the song and he is talking about being "done".

Also, during that time, there was very little out there about Prince's personal life except a few articles in magazines like "Right On" and they were mainly about his music, his nastiness, and the fact that he is so private.

After first being exposed to Prince on "American Bandstand" a few years earlier looking gayer than he has ever looked, prancing up to the microphone with his hand on his hip (fish as hell) to talk to Dick Clark after just finishing a song called "I Wanna Be Your Lover". Also, the very next year, hearing songs like "Head" and seeing pictures of him licking up the side of a guitar as if he were licking up the shaft of a dick. With all this going on and Prince not talking ever, what's a person to think? lol Prince was at his mysterious best in those years.

A good friend of mine from years back is a lipstick lesbian. She has always said that the only man she would ever give the time of day would be Prince. She said playing "Do Me Baby" and "International Lover" back to back makes her wet and she'd strap on her lover's strap on and fuck Prince till he hollers like he does in those songs. lol

yes, yes--I understand this about both Rock Hard and Bambi.

HOwever, he words these statements in such a way as to be homo-erotic.

For Bambi, he could have said "Bambi, Can't U understand! Bambi It's better with if ur with a man..."

And for Rock Hard, "I just hate to C my erection go to waste...". Becuase even though he follows up the statemetn with "I'm just Rock Hard in a funky place.", that doesn't mean there aren't two erections involved.

wow. Prince is sooooo gay. eek

Oh, c'mon! Isn't it OBVIOUS that Bambi was one queer deer? He had that effeminate sounding name, hung out with a queenish boy skunk named "Flower" (how's that for a guy's name?), and I'm pretty sure he had something going on with Thumper! He was gayer than springtime, no doubt about it!

Don't even get me started on Timone and Puumba from The Lion King!!

Yeah, Bambi and the whole bunch had "gender dysphoria". I think they were all pre-operative transexuals. Walt Disney is sooooo ahead of the times.

nod Of course, when you examine Snow White, you realize she is living with seven gay dwarves! Seven dudes live with one another, never seeing a female, and when one comes to live with them not a single one make a move on her!

Yeah, but I think all those Bambis came after the movie. Isn't it weird that women were named/named themselves after a male character, and that the name has kind of slutty connotations?

Oh, and he goes by "The Bammer" now.

I think so too. The world has tried to make being gay the ultimate insult and some people are so afraid that people are going to think they are gay for listening to someone who might possibly be. People like this are weak minded and worry too much about what other people think. Hell, gays don't get bent out of shape if people mistake them for being straight so why should it matter to straight people if people mistake them for being gay? People claim to be so "liberal" these days but nothing has really changed.

Personally, I love that Prince doesn't bother to clarify on songs like this. It takes balls to put yourself out there in a position where you could be perceived as gay, whatever your orientation. thumbs up! to Prince!

Wouldn't make one bit of difference to me if he were to come out as gay or bi or announce he was going in for a sex change or anything else. My appreciation of his music -yes, even the multitudes of songs about pussy -wouldn't change. I'd be a bit curious as to why he felt he couldn't come out before now, but ultimately wouldn't care that much as it'd be none of my business anyway.

That said, the thought of him and another man does make a pretty picture in my mind. horny

That's exactly why I specifically made reference to the title alone and stated that once I heard the song in it's entirety I realized how well the title worked. You gotta admit, though, when taken in context of the lyrics, it works lovingly, when taken out of context, it's GAY!

Look at Shakira's song, "Underneath Your Clothes"....sounds pretty dirty as a title, but taken with the rest of the lyrics, is also a song about emotions.

Wait, I think i'm sounding gay now...I'll stop. neutral
