Purple Rain on the big screen.

The other day SKY Movies, as is their way, showed Purple Rain at some un-Godly hour at night. So I sat and waited and watched, as you do...not having seen this movie enough already... and then it struck me.

I've never seen Purple Rain at the cinema, and I think I've missed out on something truly magnificent. As it was late, I'd turned out the lights and was sat watching the opening few shots and the thought occurred that, to me, being a Prince fan, the opening shot of the head in silhouette would mean as much to me, culturally, as the opening shot of Star Wars and the Imperial Star Destroyer crawling across the screen or the lady being eaten by Jaws. It was at this point that I fumed at my age and the afct I'd never seen Purple Rain on the big screen.

There, I thought I'd share that with you.... I'm just jealous of all you fans who have.

you have missed out on something truly magnificent, there was nothing like seeing it at the theatres back in the summer of 84, lines were stretched out to the parking lot every weekend, "Dearly Beloved"

I was such a lame kind (16 at the time) with control freak parents who would never dream of letting me see Purple Rain, so I actually rode my bicycle out of STATE to watch PR in the theater. Boy, did I get a killin' when I got home. neutral

It's the only thing that ever compelled me to rebel against my parents as a kid (I've spent my entire adult life rebelling against them smile ). I was scared to death of them, but PR called. cool

Depending on where you live, some theaters do midnight showings of PR...I know there was a theater in Mpls and a few other cities that played it last week nod

Eskimokisses - I'm not sure that Coventry is a hotbed of Princely thangs... I can't imagine this town ever having a late night PR showing!
