Pop superstar PRINCE is the latest celebrity being lined up to appear in the second series of RICKY GERVAIS' hit comedy show EXTRAS.

The British funnyman and co-writer STEPHEN MERCHANT are confident they will reach an agreement with the PURPLE RAIN hitmaker, after already securing fellow music stars DAVID BOWIE and CHRIS MARTIN for cameo appearances.

Merchant says, "The person I would really like to get on it is Prince.

"I was thinking the other day that I have no idea what he is like in real life."

Hollywood actors BEN STILLER, SAMUEL L JACKSON and KATE WINSLET all made guest appearances in the first series of the BBC comedy.

I hope his Us fans can see this show. I love to see him in stuff and to see how he Really is ...

I don't "pretend to 'get'" Extras, I enjoy watching it. Now, the American version of The Office, that's just a travesty. They perverted everything that was good about the show, including not having Ricky Gervais.

If you'd like to draw lines on national origins, I'll give you back Extras, you let us have Prince back.

Terrif.... The More Prince Appearances the more talking the BETTER ... What a DREAMBOAT.....

Oh, come on, the chances of Prince appearing in Extras is as low as... well I can't think of something low enough. If you actually read their comments, they say they would like Prince to appear - well, Michael Eavis would like Prince to appear at Glastonbury, but it ain't happened so far.

It's clear they haven't actually got in touch with him yet, I don't think they have any idea how hard it is to get Prince to do anything. Whoop de doo, they've got Chris Martin, who'll turn up for the opening of an envelope, and David Bowie, who still thinks he's an actor. Prince is in a whole other league of hard-to-get.

As for American humour translating across the World, fair point but the majority of which is based on simple,non too demanding and obvious humour. M.A.S.H. aside look at the greats like Cheers, Friends , Fraiser etc these are truly well written punch line based shows that really do get the laughs but subtelty and irony , as we all well know, are qualities that are rarely part of the American mix.
I just pray that you lot leave Goldfrapp alone as well!!.

Its been on for weeks...I doubt he would do this...the guy's just ass lickin to put the offer out there.

I agree that the majority of the American mainstream audience need to be hit in the face with the point to get it, but I'm not a fan of any of the series you listed. I would much prefer The Office or Extras, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or something that isn't a prime-time sitcom.

I don't necessarily disagree with your point, but I think generalizing about American comedy or audiences is like trying to generalize about American music -- there are producers and consumers all over the map. Not everthing is as easy to categorize as Carrot Top = "Shit", or Ricky Gervais = "Brilliant".

Sounds like wishful thinking, no more. Before he said all that, had Merchant even attempted to contact Prince to see if he would be at all interested? I don't wish to poop on anyone's hopes but only this morning, Gervais was live on BBC radio and said he was still trying to get David Bowie & Chris Martin, which shows that this report is not exactly bursting with accuracy....

Prince was holding a copy of Charlotte Church's Call My Name cd and was shaking his head furiously.Londell was holding a copy of Prince's Cinnamon Girl and was just sort of shrugging.They eventually just gave each other a hug and Londell went and bought a cooked chicken, BBQ if i wasnt mistaken.

The only reason stars like Sam L Jackson, Ben stiller etc agreed to be on extras was down to the fact that they find Gervais hillarious themselves, and commented on that fact. Thus to turn down their cameo roles would look bad on their part i guess. Although i think they worked well in their positions, and got the humour of it all, the question really is, does "prince" like that kind of comedy and ricky gervais, and indeed would he be willing to let those writers make piss taking references to himself which is inevitable.

Theres no way he will do it even if they do get to talk to him...everybody so far as been asked to play an over the top parody of themselves.

Can you imagine Prince agreeing to play up his arrogance, religious beliefs, obsession with sex and general weirdness - that how the public see him so thats what they will have to ask him to do,

Besides he simply wouldnt understand it to agree to it....Ben Stiller and Sam Jackson and Brad Pitt (in the process) are one of the few who it would work with because they have that wicked humour

it probably won't happen, but if it did, i could see the logic - first off, if the next album is meant to be a riff on his star-studded '3121' parties, it would be a good publicity tie-in move to guest on a sitcom about celebrity. secondly, if touring for the next album is gonna focus on europe as has been rumored, getting a bit of good-humored exposure on a hot BBC sitcom wouldn't hurt at all.

i doubt it'll happen, but i could see how prince could have his reasons for doing it...
