I thought that was a fairly well know moment of weirdness in the Prince world.

It happened during an interview with Q magazine...an Interview around the Gold Experience time when he was trying to prove that he wasnt weird.

"Then something bizzare an Prince-like happens, a sound starts to crackle through a previously unnoticed TV. Without missing a beat he nods towards the set and says "its a sign, its a sign that we should go into my room".....He makes for the door, Duane (Nelson) appears in the hall to ask what the problem is "a sound cam throough the TV" explain Prince "its a sign". "Nah" says Duane "you just sat on the remote control"

Nah - neva read it! Good story, tho...
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

No, no, promise you I'm not. Tongue is firmly planted in cheek with you Americans.I just find , in the broadest general terms, it funny how in American T.V shows how everything has to be explained step by step by step!!. I watched here on U.K TV the U.S. version of wife swap. It could have been great, a gay male couple with 2 really well adjusted, great teenage daughters swapping with dysfunctional Bible bashers from the Mid west. What ruined it was the commentary at every stage explaining every damn thing that happened or was about to happen. Now I know that wife swap isn't exactly high brow but surely even y'all don't need THAT programme explaining.
I also employed an American in quite a Senior role here and our clients [who mostly are in the top 100 U.K businesses really didn't like her and her inability to 'have a laugh'. She was more of a cyborg.
Right i gotta go and raise my flag and sing an anthem , bye!.

I think you watch too much TV, buddy.

Thats why we Americans don't get the subtle humor of Benny Hill funny - he is just too ironic.whofarted

I suspect the reason why Benny hill appeals so massively to the Good ole' USofA is down to the reasons I've already pointed out i.e. non too taxing , in your face , lowest common denominator jokes. What the hell , if it makes you laugh then cool. I doubt though whether you lot would have ever understood the finer sketches of the Two Ronnies. As for the Benny Hill in the U.K. his novelty wore off eventually yet still seems to be ever popular in the U.S., funny that.....

Benny Hill has never been popular in the USA
except with Michael Jackson.
If you think Americans have liked
& embraced Benny Hill then you have been misinformed.

Yet every time in the U.K. we see Joe Shmo being interviewed on the streets in the U.S. about comedy Benny and that Little bald man keep popping up as a favourite. Didn't know MJ liked him though.Imagine if MJ played the role of the little bald man!

What little bald man?
I've never watched more than 2 minutes of Benny Hill
so you have lost me if you are making references to his show.

from Contactmusic.com

Pop superstar PRINCE is the latest celebrity being lined up to appear in the second series of RICKY GERVAIS' hit comedy show EXTRAS.

The British funnyman and co-writer STEPHEN MERCHANT are confident they will reach an agreement with the PURPLE RAIN hitmaker, after already securing fellow music stars DAVID BOWIE and CHRIS MARTIN for cameo appearances.

Merchant says, "The person I would really like to get on it is Prince.

"I was thinking the other day that I have no idea what he is like in real life."

Hollywood actors BEN STILLER, SAMUEL L JACKSON and KATE WINSLET all made guest appearances in the first series of the BBC comedy.

ok...is he or is he not going to be a guest on this show? Look if this show has anything to do with Sony...prince will be there.

macca2002

A local radio station in Birmingham UK spoke to Ricky today and asked the question if prince was to appear on the next series of extras. The answer was no. The other guy whose names escapes me was asked who would he would want on a wish list to appear on the extras the answer was Prince

ha,Steven Merchant (the guy you're most likely talking about mecca2000) - Gervais' best mate, writing partner and the guy who plays his agent in the show - must be a P fan.

looks like it *ain't* gonna happen though.

At the height of OFFICE fever in the UK, Prince played the Hammersmith Apollo.
I went to 2 nights and tried to get into an aftershow that never materialised somewhere in London. Stephen Merchant was stood in front of me in the queue trying to get into the aftershow. He didn't get in either. But he's obviously a big fan.
