Well, I'm confused. I had for years believed that it said 'Rogers', but then I remember a thread here about a year ago where people were insisting that it actually read 'Roger'. (I found this http://www.prince.org/msg/7/62554 but I think there was at least one other one. Sadly, in the post by Dansa the link to his birth cert is dead, and I searched but couldn't find it).

I also just happened to be re-reading a bit of Liz Jones book Slave to the Rhythm the other day, and in it she says that although the intent was to call him 'Prince Rogers' that his birth cert actually has 'Prince Roger' on it.

So I don't know who to believe. I guess there's only one guy who can really confirm the truth.

Yes it does. People have put the S on the end of Roger for years and no one ever calls them on it. I have a picture of his birth certificate and it reads Prince Roger Nelson.

Someone asked a question and someone else answered. Then there was some disagreement over whether or not that answer was correct. No big deal.

Sorry had to edit a horrible typo. biggrin

Not arguing, discussing, as is our right and wont. If you find the discussion of Prince's middle name objectionable, and have nothing constructive to add, I suggest you find another thread to amuse you.

We're calling the guy by his first name (his choice btw), so what's so strange about someone asking what the correct spelling of his middle name is? This is a fansite where people discuss all sorts of things concerning Prince. You can at least expect people to ask questions like this.

But you don't have to reply, you don't even have to read the thread after you've seen it's about his name once again. Anything but actual news on this site has already been discussed. Even if the search engine is working people would still continue to ask the same questions over and over again. It will never change, no matter how often you make fun of people.

No, but what's even more silly is to respond to the same questions by making the same type of tired ass remarks. They didn't ask you personally, so they won't be offended if you just ignore them. Other people apparently don't have a problem answering these questions.

Why not? People are always going to ask stuff that's been asked before, ad naseum, as there's no effective way to determine if something's been discussed before. I don't think it's very fair of anyone to have a go at someone just because they aren't aware that their question has been asked thousands of times before, or because somebody thinks their question is lame.

That happened to me on my very first post here, and it was not the friendliest of welcomes. I very nearly deleted my account on the spot, some of you might be happier if I had done, but tough!

I agree it can be annoying when the same old crap keeps popping up (don't mention hips), but if this forum were restricted only to things that haven't been discussed before, it'd be empty!

Not to mention that it happens with the same degree of regularity in most of the other forums too. I've seen the same joke posted 5 times in the last few months in GD - even posted it myself once - but I was first smile

He never legally changed his name when he changed it to prince.

Does a birth cert have an issue date on it ?

So if he had changed his name to 'Pronce Dildos Neslon' would he be given a new cert with an appropriate date of issue, and the original cancelled ? Or something ?

each state is different, here it keeps a record of the changes and shows the certificate as "amended" and the date it was amended wink

Regardless of what his name is, there are people who called him Roger. Classmates of his in Junior High remember him going by the name Roger when they went to school with him. That doesn't mean they still do, but at one time, years ago, they did.
