Chocolate (the song) appreciation

My favorite song off of The Time's Pandemonium, but apparently Prince recorded it first..... (I think the TIme's version just has MOrris' vocals and the rest is the original Prince tune).

THe beat is just slamming! I don't know why Morris and the fellas never play it live??? (Well except for that 1 time on SNL)

One thing that annoys me though is during the break at the end when MOrris tells everyone to clap..... he says "If you can't clap on the 1, keep your hands in your pocket"

But it's kind of retarded to clap on the 1.... you would be clapping on the 2 and 4!

I think its pretty weak. I always skip past it on Pandemonium. Its annoying.

2 me, it's the only song (well maybe Jerk Out) that reminds me of The Time's first 3 CDs. I love it. Classic Morris & Prince! It picks up where Ice Cream Castles left off.

Yeah thats a good song from a good cd.
Very few stinkers on that cd.
Not a ton of skits or interludes between the songs.
Plus its fun trying to guess who wrote what songs.

I didn't know there was a version of Chocolate with Prince vocals.

Aren't they the same, except the Time's has Morris' vocals instead of Prince's. II nk everything else is from P's original.

And what do y'all think about the "clap on the 1"..... it's f*cked up, no? smile

the time's version was longer than prince's demo. for some reason that "tootsie roll!" chant at the end cracks me up...

Prince recorded all the Time stuff this way (and the other protege acts) with his guide vocals to be replaced by Morris. It was originally recorded during the sessions for the 3rd Time album, Ice-Cream Castles in 1983, but wasn't used.

It is a great track, one of my favourite The Time numbers, that classic Prince humour:

Everytime we're out on a date, I want 2 love U, U made me wait
Then U told me I look like a pimp, But honey, I noticed U waited 'til after dinner
18 jumbo shrimp - Damn!
