I've Never heard that about Jesse playing the parts, and then Prince playing them identically. Where did you get that piece of info? I wouldn't consider that common knowledge.

and before anyone starts calling me a prince hater or somehow tie this discussion into my love for all things wendy and lisa:

the above statements made by sosgemini should not be interpreted as a bash on prince's artistic ability..the man is a musical geniuse...he deserves a place in musical history with all the other greats.....

but greatness does not make one a saint.

Oh, your definately a hater!, U probably think that mean lil' Prince robbed Wendy & Lisa for their soundbites too, don't U? First U say the man is steals soundbites and then turn around and call him a musical genius. Pick a side! Goshdangonit. Is his place in history a musical genius or soundbite stealer?!

The two are not mutually exclusive.

In fact, in this case, most people would probaby agree that the both are in fact true.

"Who wrote that?"

I always thought that was referring not to a specific theft but to the general theft of the Minneapolis Sound.

I thought Prince was chaffing because two insiders Jimmy and Terry revived Janet's career by anointing her with the Minneapolis Sound which prior to had only gone to those Prince christened. He was the originator of the Minnie sound and was thought to be the golden purveyor.

You could always tell who was in Prince's clique ...cuz they all had that sound.

How did Janet weave her way in and then dominate.

If it weren't for Janet's new sound ... I highly doubt she would be around today. I patronized her initially ...but really ... Young Love and Say You Do were not going to make her career.

But I'm no musician ... so these are my very simple interpretations...

R U saying Prince was running around stealing people's shit? If he was, then every artist should be considered biters. So why is it that alot of the threads some1 wants 2 single out Prince. Again if Prince is taking credit 4 other people's work then they should go the legal route. Or be satisfied with the songs Prince wrote and gave them credit for. Damn near everybody he worked with back then had albums and received credit for shit that was completely done and all they had 2 do was add their lead vocal. It was cool back then, so don't pop up 10, 20 yrs later crying about it. I mean really, if the man was robbing their asses, then what the hell was sticking around 4. If their asses was so freakin' great then go and make yourself a star and stop riding the coat tail of Prince. How long did Jam & Lewis keep up their commercial Minneapolis (Prince) sound? I bet somewhere some1 is calling them muscial geniuses and Lord knows they were robbing Prince. Who's saying their biters? Or soundbite stealers? Think about the video 4 'Control'.

Calm down dude! I'm not accusing anyone of anything.

I was just pointing out that it is possible for someone to believe both statements, since they are not mutually exclusive.

I wasn't in the studio so I don't know what the truth is.

Could his quote "who wrote this?" be a simple reference to his hometown friends jam and lewis. he could just be giving them props?????

Bingo. This is what I always thought when I heard it. Also, wasn't this just before Graffiti Bridge when Prince and J & T were all chummy again?

I think people are reading far too much into his comments during that performance.
