Prince shoule go back to the formula that worked.

Prince should put everything back the ways it was back in 1984:

Put the Revolution back togeter and start recording more hit records.

Put the original TIME back together and start producing records.

Put Appollonia 6 back together and start producing. These girls are
LONG OVERDUE for a new album, IMO.

I'd love to see it but now it's too late. The general public's listening taste has gone to hip hop hell and even if Prince were to release his funkiest album ever, it still would be a flop. Unfortunately, dull is "in" these days.

Prince has lied so many times in the past by releasing a "far out" album and saying..."that album was for the fans". Maybe he was referring to the "fams" that like any and everything rather than the fans. If he really wants to release one for the fans, he should release one from the vault from the era you are referring to or even a few years before it. He might even get some of the old ex-fans back.

Yes, x plus y equals hit, I don't see what the problem is? biggrin

The Revolution was more or less a touring band, it was still mainly just Prince in the studio. Same for The Time and Apollonia 6 too really.

Every artist has to move on and try new things, for better or worse, it's the only way to stay inspired. I don't see that getting stuck in the past is a way forward.

Still, it might be a cool experiment for him to try and record an album only using the equipment available in the early 80s...

You can't go home again and the past has passed. Meaning, I am afraid The Revolution, Apollonia 6, and The Time would pale in comparison to your 1984 memory of that whole experience. It just wouldn't be the same.

Look at last year when Wendy performed with Prince. In many ways it was magical, but half the fans here bitched about how bad Wendy looked etc. She didn't look bad, she just wasn't frozen in 198whatever like we remember.

Doing that just to have hits would not be true to the art and he already has many hits!

This would be interesting, but he'd probably feel like he was retreading old territory. Although retro ain't always bad!

Don't the White Stripes record their albums using 'older' equipment? It certainly gives their music a raw, visceral quality.

That's the worst plan ever.

Mr7

There never was a 'formula'.

That's why it was so good.
