To me, it's just a rhythm track. Only bass, drums & scratches. I hear no recognizable melody. So it's hard to say if Prince was the composer.

I do own the first Praxis record (with Bernie & Bootsy). Great album, if you're in the mood for it!!

Yes, the Praxis is great, both studio and Transmutation live. By *melody* I meant the chain of tunes played by the bass. The DJ's scratching effects are probably also taken from the original song.
