Lisa (the song)

anyone think Dirty Mind would've been even better if Lisa was included?

It would have been weaker. It's a piece of shit as far as I'm concerned.

Snap

i like it, but the album is perfect the way it is
"Lisa" is too new wave for DM's raw funk-rock
but it would've made a cool b-side
showing us yet another side of what this young musical genius could do
and a sign of what was yet to come

It probably is. It's just that I can really see why most unreleased songs never made it to the record store.

I love "Lisa," it's one of my favorite outtakes, but I can't see it being on Dirty Mind. Or Controversy. But oddly, it sounds like the perfect mix between the two. If Prince had released an album in April of 1981, in between the two albums, I could see it there with "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me," "The Second Coming," and "Do Yourself A Favor" (although I think that was recorded later in '82).

It's amazing that, even with an album a year back then, it still wasn't enough to accurately capture everything he was doing musically.

Eh... There's nothing uncommon about that. Most musicians drift away stylistically all the time and albums are usually comprised of just the ones that fit together the best.

It's one of my favourites, and that bassline is one of the very best! Should have included it on DM.
