Don't you miss Prince cursing?

I mean, don't you just wish he would say "Fuck" every now and again? Didn't some of his most wonderful, lurid and sensational lyrics contain profanity? Darling..., ...Married, Head, Gett Off, Dirty Mind to name a few. Don't you want him to 'sincerely fuck the taste out of your mouth' just one more time?

Let's start a compaign:
Prince, start swearing again. God will forgive you. He knows you are a good man at heart, don't let the transient surface forbid your true inclination to the curse!

I think it would be embarrasing to hear him curse now.

Depends. I wish he was still playing his back catalogue. It would be so cool to hear a versions Head et al without the religisising (is that a word? it is now!) and "parental guidance approved". Basically it would be cool to hear him "bullshit" when everyone claims to have heard about the quake, "masturbate with a magazine" when he sings about a girl he met, enjoy however many positions a one night stand can throw up.

Basically I want Prince to sing his songs and not have one eye on the afterlife. I mean, is God really going to be offended by the odd "motherfucker" or two? And if he is is he going to let Prince off for only having used such language during his formative years?

It would be so energising to know you were walking into a Prince concert and all the cards were on the table, all the songs could be played, not just the ones that the potty-mouth-o-meter had registered clear for performance.

I agree ufoclub! Come on Prince, sing The Cross and say "Cross" (not that that is a curse, per se, but I bet "Cross" is a potty-mouth-o-meter word that Prince can't say anymore), sing Sister - and with some gusto -, get your Head out! Prince's back catalogue is suffering because of a misplaced religious piety (IMHO) and we're suffering as a result. Wouldn't it be wonderful to hear a version of "Days of Wild" again, a new one? Wouldn't it be cool to hear a new, live version of Lovesexy? I would faint.

PRINCE SHOULD SWEAR... I bet he still does when he stubs his toe.

I'd say I miss his attitude more than anything, but then again I got about 250 discs here of the old Prince. I'm not getting his new stuff anymore because I know what to expect and I don't like it, but the old shit still sounds as good as it did when it was just recorded.

Not so much the Cursing..No, but I do want to hear the songs in their Entirety. It was pretty great at Musicology. Prince's shows are Always Fun. Just because a person Curses doesn't mean they are cool. And music isn't about Cursing and screaming. I do miss that weird Tora,Tora Tora Style. I always said DAMN How can he Breath under the scarf and I Loved the way he played the bass on COUNT THE DAYS. I would kind of like to hear FACE DOWN again in the FUTURE. biggrin

If this were a couple of years ago, I would have said yeas but I don't now. As long as he keeps it funky, he can say whatever he wants in his songs.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

So true! I don't care if he decides not to curse in his new music, but if you decide not to curse, don't pretend you are and then put in "duck" for the real thing. Or just leave a moment of silence when he would have dropped an f-bomb in the past. I hate that shit.

I would prefer it if he swore when necessary, but changing lyrics when he performs live is ok. What really bugs me is when he alters previously recorded studio tracks to edit out the cursing. Totally unnecessary, in my opinion.

No, unnecessary cursing degrades and cheapens an artists work xcept if the cursing is the focal point of artwork. Prince was never that bad. He says Fuck a few times on DM and Symbol (sexy MF), but other albums except for the mid 90s rap phase he uses less colourful langauage.

Disregard Lets Pretend were married.

What I do miss is the graphic sex in songs

Coming up: Prince fans assert that mature adults do not swear, are not interested in pushing boundaries, and only have sex once a week if Survivor isn't on. Details at 11.

From the way some fans talk, you'd think 47 was the new 90. Prince swearing, talking about sex, challenging people's ideas, etc. "at his age" would be embarassing. Riiiiight.

Exactly. Who does Prince think he's protecting? The majority of Prince fans don't exactly have a problem with the odd curse, or explicit songs about sex.

Guess what? God doesn't care either. The biblical no-no against swearing refers to taking the name of the Lord in vain, i.e. "Jesus Christ", "Oh My God", etc. Fuck and Shit are mildly offensive at best -and only because of society's misunderstanding of the words -but not swears.

afterthought: Guess what Prince does still say? "Good God!"

Hypocrite. confused

That was just retarded. Obviously Prince has never considered that what makes a curse is not the word itself, but the intent.

When he replaced duck for fuck, duck became the swear. Prince is still technically cussing -but only because he apparently thinks the sound is more important than what is meant by the sound.

No, I was just thinking about this -- in "U Make My Sunshine," the first stanza is totally ruined by Prince's line to Angie Stone about sitting her "a__ on this throne." It was unneccessary and totally out of character for the song.
