It's been such a HATE against THE JEHOVAH"S . Many fans have spoken that they DON'T like the whole vibe. I do think Prince is Calm and stuff and probably get's Freaked that we are so DEVOTED . I wish he would stop telling us to stop IDOLIZING him Cause I for one will never stop and he doesn't have to be a PERFECT PERSON Just a TRUTHFUL/Fair Person. No One EXPECTs PRINCE to BE SUPERHUMAN. He doesn't Realize we love him and just would like to KNOW THE TRUTH. He will always be THE GREATEST in My OPINION MUSICIAN / SHOWMAN. He is the ONLY PRINCE and VERY UNIQUE!!! biggrin His fans should be Nicer to each other, less Hostile and Greddy,COMPETIVE. We are ALL HIS FANS!!! Peace biggrin

Hey, I realize this has been a good and heated discussion, but there is really no need for you to post pictures of yourself wearing your favorite shirt.

Exactly, you are on target. NOT all of Prince's friend's are JEHOVAH WHITNESSES and he doesn't try to Convert Celebrities. I don't think he expects his fans to ALL CONVERT. He has found a Religion that has Worked for him and if another wants to convert well maybe they will. He doesn't SHUN People who aren't Interested. There is no Brainwashing . Purely Free Will.

eek ..... Shit , Rainbow Children talks about religion ?????

I would never have fuckin guessed
err

thats probably y it's one of my least favourite Prince albums , it's to in ur face .

Also, GOD is not a b-side i have ever really liked ..... eye wonder y???

I like Erotic City , Girl , Shockadelica , Violet the Organ Grinder , 17 Days , Lalalahehehe , Scarlett Pussy & Irresistable bitch ..... Do u think they r religous ?????

When i asked 4 examples , i was thinking at least 50 religous tunes that i shouldnt like!

I didn't say all his songs are religious now, did I? You said you can listen to his songs without taking in his religious bullshit ("so just sit back & enjoy the sound of his guitar & 4get about the religion side of it as that really dont fuckin matter as long as u r liking the Music ..... does it ??") I asked you if that also counted for the songs in which he's singing about it and then you asked for examples. Examples are just that, example, not a complete list.

I don't care if you love or hate those songs, I'm just saying that the lyrics of, for example, TRC ruin the songs for some people.
[Edited 10/14/05 13:04pm]

I know that biggrin

U asked me if i even listen 2 the lyrics ..... of course i do ..... as i said TRC is one of my least favourite albums coz of all that "LYRICALLY" ..... "MUSICALLY IT"S VERY GOOD THOUGH" ,there are about 5 tunes on it i really love wink

Would u agree with me Repo if i said that i dont think there is another album of his anything like TRC (religion wise)?? ..... obviously there have been many references to god & the church over the years BUT not in such a confined space as 1 album.
Tha we can agree on surely thumbs up!

I don't think I'm a hypocrite when it comes to the JW thing. I think that religions overall are full of hypocrisy. It doesn't matter whether he's a JW, Muslim, Jew, Catholic or whatever--I don't really want to hear about it in the lyrics. If I wanted overt religious-ness in my music I would buy Gospel. That said, I can overlook the Love is God/God is Love stuff from Lovesexy and the Acknowledge Christ & the Father from Everlasting Now, I really like Lovesexy (the album) and Everlasting Now (song). I understand that even some of his songs that aren't blantantly religious have religious subtext (e.g. I Would Die 4 U), but I just don't like being preached to (that's why I don't go to church!)... The only album that I feel borders on that is TRC and I have to admit, it's not one of my favorites, but I think that has more to do with the racial content of the lyrics. (but that's another thread entirely...)

So I hear you saying that, up until "the Rainbow Children" you were able to, more or less, ignore Prince's religious/spiritual messages. You kind of swept it under the rug.

You say Prince's messages weren't blatant-I think they were often blatantly Christian.

Consider:

-"The Lord's Prayer" in "Controversy".
-" 4 the tears in your eyes"
-"God"
-"I would Die 4 U"
-The message at the end of "Darling Nikki"
-"The Cross"
-"Anna Stesia"

-Purple Rain tour: The 20 minute interlude of Prince "talking to God", or switching the lyrics to "purple rain" (yes in 1985) to "...let the Lord guide you to the Purple Rain..."

I could go on, but my point remains the same. Prince has always been singing about a Christian God and Jesus and been Christian . However, now because he has drifted to the beliefs of a specific denomination, fans panties are all in a bunch.

Prince's message hasn't changed, yet I have seens a lot of ugliness come from fans, stemming from ignorance and predjudice, directed towards Jehovah's Witnesses. Again, I thought Prince fans were more open minded. Is anyone hear friends with a Jehovah's Witness? Does anyone hear even know any Jehovah's Witnesses outside of them coming to your door? I mean, I hate when the damn kids come to my door to get me to buy a dollar candy bar for their organization, but I don't hate all kids because of it.

If you don't think that the dude has been preaching/singing about Jesus since 1981 then you have most definitely had the blinders on. If you chose to ignore it, that is about you and not Prince.

I dont think i have ever been a hypocrite when it comes to P , i love his music & always will ..... his beliefs r his own as r mine & the fact of the matter is i was never a massive fan of TRC but the lyrics & references to JW did not make me angry or affect me in any personal way other than i dont like the album as much as many other P albums.

The simple truth is that a good song is a good song wether it has a religous edge or not , The Cross has always been one of my favourite tunes of all time ..... quite honestly , P can sing about whatever he likes as i have liked 95% of EVERYTHING he has done period !!

Long live prince as the king is dead music

I think you may have misunderstood a lot of what I meant. I'll try to clarify:

I didn't get his albums in order--so that's not entirely the case. I would more say that TRC is his most blatantly religious album.

You say Prince's messages weren't blatant-I think they were often blatantly Christian.

Consider:

-"The Lord's Prayer" in "Controversy".
-" 4 the tears in your eyes"

No I said even the ones that weren't blantantly religious had religious sub themes. I completely agree with you that there are many that are blantantly religious but I just didn't list ones you mentioned (I couldn't think of them offhand b/c I was in a hurry), I simply used Lovesexy & TRC as my examples.

-Purple Rain tour: The 20 minute interlude of Prince "talking to God", or switching the lyrics to "purple rain" (yes in 1985) to "...let the Lord guide you to the Purple Rain..."

I've never seen footage of this tour so I wouldn't know about that.

I could go on, but my point remains the same. Prince has always been singing about a Christian God and Jesus and been Christian .

I completey agree with you. What I meant was, I like it better when he leaves the "God/Jesus" stuff out of the lyrics. I skip a lot of the songs that you mentioned above because for that very reason.

However, now because he has drifted to the beliefs of a specific denomination, fans panties are all in a bunch.

Prince's message hasn't changed, yet I have seens a lot of ugliness come from fans, stemming from ignorance and predjudice, directed towards Jehovah's Witnesses. organization, but I don't hate all kids because of it.

if you review my posts on the org I think you will see that I've NEVER said anything derogotory about Prince being a JW or about JW-ism in general. My ex-boyfriend's grandmother was a practicing JW. I don't judge people by the "groups" they belong to--I judge them on their character, and the way they treat me. I don't care what religion he is (or isn't) I just would prefer that he keeps it out of his music.

If you don't think that the dude has been preaching/singing about Jesus since 1981 then you have most definitely had the blinders on. If you chose to ignore it, that is about you and not Prince.

No worries, but since your entire post seemed to be in response to mine it sort of seemed that you included me with those fans who hate on JWs. I wanted to make sure it was noted that I am not a "hater". cool
