Is there a cat in Purple Rain?

So I was watching Purple Rain again and I noticed something weird just after Morris et. al walk by the Revolutions' dressing room and ask, "How's the family?" When Prince & the Revolution all get up to leave, in the mirror you can see that Jill Jones is in the room AND she is holding a white cat!? eek Has anyone else noticed this? I am pretty sure it is a live cat because the tail seems too long to be a dog's tail and it moves a little. Does anyone have any insight as to:
a) why Jill would be in the dressing room with the band (was there a sub plot I missed somewhere?)
b) what the hell is the cat doing in there? did Prince have a pet cat? (no pussy jokes please! razz )
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Apparently it's a puppy.

I remember reading in the original script there was a scene with Prince and Jill Jones where she shows him the dog and he's dressed similar to Prince and the fur on top of it's head was spray painted purple in a mowhawk style.

Im sure I read somewhere the scene was filmed for the movie but wasn't suited to the project, so it got cut and ended up on the cutting room floor

If I'm not mistaken, there IS a cat in the movie - at the beginning of the scene where Morris and Apollonia are in the alley after having a few drinks, and Apples says "Did u hear those people applauding? They loved us!".....The first thing u hear in that scene is a cat screeching.
Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

It's fairly common knowledge... this kitten managed to reach the respectable age of 16 years and was tragically and needlessly put to sleep by Larry Graham in 1999. Apparently cats are considered godless creatures in JW circles.

There are websites devoted to the cat and its unfortunate fate... if you know where to find them that is... nod
