he still writes very good songs but it has been a long time in my opinion since he has written a great single....for me, the last great one was "gold" back in 1995....his last top ten hit in the uk.....(not including the reissued 1999) and then back to his run of great singles in the 80s when he could do no wrong....this new single s.s.t makes me pine for the prince of old, i know its for a good cause but it doesnt compare to his old stuff.....what happened to the melodys, princey boy?

A great single is kinda... hard to define. Prince has had MANY great songs most , however, were never released as a single.

This has been one of if not the biggest handicaps of his otherwise brilliant career... ie rarely releasing tracks which would make strong singles and often chosing tracks which should have simply remained 'album tracks'

Even Musicolgy, which some fans don't like (I do however) had tracks which would have made great singles.... A Million Days, I.C.P.C. , The Marrying Kind all for instance had great 'singles' potential, but what does he release... Musicology and Call My Name both good tracks... and some will argue for both... but neither had the apeal to be great singles in a 'pop' market.
