Would you buy an album by The Revolution (without Prince)?

A Revolution album (with or without any involvement by Prince) would be cool. I wonder if anything was ever considered in the past? Given Prince's involvement on the NPG albums, it's unlikely anything was ever done as a band without Prince at all, but anything where he took a real back-seat and let them write and play, with Prince acting as the producer or session musician?

Let me be honest.

1.No one, outside of Prince fans, cares about the Revolution. C'mon guys-they weren't The Beatles. They were another group in a long line of Prince's bands.

2.It is highly debatable if The Revolution, was in fact, Prince's best band ever.

3.I tend to think that the only reason Prince fans have so much love for the Revolution is because their exposure in the movie "Purple Rain". the film made it feel like you knew them better than any other Prince band before or after. People have a place in their heart for Wendy and Lisa and I dig that, but without any Prince involvment, I'm not interested in "The Revolution".

nod

The irony is that other than W&L, the Revolution didn't play on that many songs on the albums. So my only reference point is their live playing. Judging by that I think I'll pass.

Why not? I went to the Family Jamm to see them, I guess I'd buy their album.

I'd love to have an album by the Revolution but get rid of Wendy and replace her with Dez. Also, bring back Andre.

falloff

The revolution is NOT Prince's best band. falloff

The fact is that Prince albums involving the revolution were so great speaks to Prince's genius and to lisa and wendy's contributions--but NOT to the band as a whole.

I love Wendy & Lisa as a solo act. I saw them live on the Eroica tour and their band kicked ass, too. What a pity it didn't last. neutral

I'd buy a Revolution album if Wendy & Lisa are involved, sure. I love 'em, so of course I would. biggrin

P.S.

Got a clipping from a German music magazine, Bravo, from 1985 that says a Revolution album (without Prince) was in the works. But I guess that must've been just a rumour. neutral

One Revolution album without Prince might work if the band would have some guest stars on lead vocals.

And please let Teena Marie be one of them!!!!!

There was no "prince's involvement on the NPG albums": the NPG albums were purely & simply Prince albums as much as any "Prince" or "O+>" album!

The closest thing 2 what u describe would b the "Rebels" project from 1979 (or was it 1980?), where Prince recorded an album with the pre-Revolution band, leaving the musicians having a great involvement in arrangements & composition (mostly Dez & André actually). I also think that The Time had more participation as a band in the sessions of "Ice Cream Castle" than in the other Time projects. Same goes with "16" which was more or less a collaboration between Prince, Eric, Levi & Sheila, & the "Fresh" project which was lotsa jamming. But whatsoever Prince always had the last word in the end, & was giving the main direction every time. I don't think he could do what u say nor that it would b very interesting : Bobby Z., Dr. Fink & BrownMark have all tried solo projects & most of the results was poor if not total crap. It seems that only Wendy & Lisa would b able 2 do something intesesting out of it so i don't think they need the Revolution 2 help.

Try 2 get the Rebels album, it was bootlegged & is circulating.

Prince basically was the music he made during his time associated with the Revolution (except for Around the world in a day though, I don't own that album but that's what I hear lol). they were just his touring band like the NPG. Would you buy an NPG record without Prince involbved? so it would basically be like a new group and would be best to hold expectations until hearing said music pieces.

BEAUGARDE

I had the CD by Brownmark and I hated it, I broke it, took it back 2 the wrecka stow, hid the remaining ones and got my money back. Never wasted my time with Dr. Fink and BobbyZ. As 4 Wendy & Lisa, I love their first CD Wendy & Lisa and Eroica, I never had anything else by them. I would buy a CD by The Revolution only bcuz in my head it would still b Prince.

Where R the members of The Revolution anyways? We only hear about Wendy & Lisa.

Now that would be the kind of album I would want.

It seems I'm in the minority, but I would buy a Revolution album provided that Wendy & Susannah took over the vocals.

I guess I'm basically asking for another Wendy & Lisa album with Bobby, Fink and Mark as session musicians. confused

The Revolution IS Prince's best band. Hands DOWN!

Are they the best musicians? Hell no. But who cares? It actually felt like a real band; like a musical family. They had personality, and this was before the movie Purple Rain.

Prince's band today are just a bunch of boring professional musicians for hire who happen to play for him.

That being said, I couldn't possibly give less of a shit about The Revolution if Prince isn't involved.

He's the centerpiece, the conductor, the leader. He's the soul of it.

I have to agree with Skywalker. No one outside of Prince fans would buy it. A Revolution album should've been done about 10 years ago or more to create any type of buzz.
