Grammy Consideration Timing I was listening to a radio station out of England this weekend and they were saying how much they were looking forward to Stevie Wonder's disc finally being released in the next couple of weeks. One of the announcers even said he believes it is available on iTunes already and that it will be out in time for Grammy award consideration!
So then, I was thinking, wait a minute. If that's true and Prince is working on a new CD (after all, we know He is making a video and assume He is being productive in this time of silence)... it is likely NOT to come out in time to be considered for any award consideration for this year and is probably gonna come out to late to hold much weight in time for the following year's - right??? Do you think Prince takes into account pivotal release "windows" to put out His new stuff?

People used to say he didn't care about sales totals either but being as he had his lawyers threaten action if they didn't count those silly give-away cardboard promo cd's as sales I would say it's hard to make that argument anymore.

The deadline for Grammy consideration was up this week. That's why Motown made Stevie's album available as a downlaod first, so he could be considered.

I would say yes he does. He used the Grammy awards appearance followed by HOF induction as a springboard for the tour & Musicology. These 2 appearances propelled him back into the public eye & laid the groundwork for the CD & the tour. Makes you wonder what plans he is making for the next cd.

I love Stevie Wonder, but few things turn me off more than seeing him at an award ceremony. If he gets the "comeback nod" (and I know in my heart that all it would take for him is a moderate commercial success with one song), he'll be gettting awards and us speeches and speeches... Not ready!
Prince is only interested in the Grammies for the exposure, when he can do it his way. I don't think he puts much stock in getting one or two awards. The whole Joshua Tree/SOTT thing probably killed it for him a long time ago. [Edited 10/4/05 19:41pm]

But he didn't attend the ceremony when he was up for five awards. It seems clear to me he was interested in the Grammies for the exposure rathan than the awards.
