Why Do People Think Prince is Feminine?

Some of his really old stuff sounds really fem., but what does he do that makes so many people think he's feminine? He's always seemed so masculine to me, especiallly surrounded by so many women? I refuse to believe this is a dumb question.

most men don't wear high-heeled boots, heavy makeup, sing in a girlish falsetto, and are constantly "pretty".

everyone in show biz wears makeup, and there are lots of R&B singers that sing in that falsetto, but no one calls them feminine.

he wears heels
he sings in a falsetto
he's pretty
he perms his hair more than *most men
he wears eyeliner/make up
he believed his other half was a woman
he was camille
he wrote women songs for women

I mean, I understand why people think he is feminine, I on the other hand think he's a genius.

shrug

and very masculine, I might add.

He does have some feminine body language. The way he sits, the way he holds things in his hands. Not to mention everything else lol.

Prince is either a somewhat feminine middle-aged man or a somewhat masculine teenaged girl. You decide. razz

beats me.

Even when he wore tons of lace, makeup and heels I never picked up a feminine vibe from him. Masculinity oozes from his pores. I don't think he is shy and quiet either, just reticent at times. He's very clever at maintaining various facades. All the speculatlion about his orientation/race/personality probably amuses him.

Maybe generating intrigue is his way of making life more interesting.

Most people don't know about Camille and most people haven't heard much from his falsetto only days, tho. The little exposure they've had to him makes them think he's gay. Even people who didn't know shit about him before Musicology. All the "feminine" stuff he does is nothing that other straight R&B singers haven't done.

there's nothing fem about what he's wearing...
[Edited 10/2/05 20:10pm]

The only "gay" things it ever looked like he did were a couple of dance moves he did with the NPG in which it looked like they were humping him. The first time I saw this was when they all fell on his naked ass during that 1991 MTV thing at the beginning of the performance. But really, the only pic of him I've ever seen that makes him look effeminate is this one below, and non-fans would never have seen something like this:

[Edited 10/2/05 20:13pm]

and this pic is very uncharacteristic of him.

yeah, it's a pretty cool video. He's wearing this red thing, but it's not a dress or anything like that. And thruout, he just does a bunch of cool, romantic dance moves. But what's fem about that?

I'd also like to add that I never thought his Prince/Dirty Mind/Controversy underwear was just a man's bikini. Some men wear stuff like that.

That's exactly what I'm trying to say. He's artsy and unique, but people mistake art with gayness. How many male musicians are artful about so many things that they do?

I'll take another look at it. What sorts of things should I look for? ACtually, it kinda reminds me of that D'Angelo vid.

I wouldn't call him feminine (trust me, the man comes alive when hanging out privately with other men like members of The Time), but some of his moves are pretty gay. The dance he did with Tony, Damon and Kirk on the Act 1 (Symbol) tour where one all three would be laying on the floor butt humping each other was always a strange one.

But that was just me.
