"1999" was so disapointing, all these years waiting, and this? I remember the explosion live in 83, "paarrty", this is what we get?, a lame ass countdown?

Oh yes that WAS great... I always knew that song was missing a certain something... I also loved the part where Larry Graham plummets to a certain death from the roof of Paisley Park....

The speach in purple rain about time being a trick of the mind.
Prince's is implying that by not believing in time, he can stay young forever. I'm thinkin, "yeah right, tell that to the stylist who dyes the grey out of your damned hair!"

Its the best live version of PR ever! Now i know you dont actually believe that. What about 1985 AMA eh,eh? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I'm surprised so many are saying it's Purple Rain/The Christ, some going as far as praising the changed lyrics. When the DVD came out, I wasn't accustomed to Prince changing key lyrics like that although I had heard "The Christ". Seeing him do it on camera was not pleasant. Changing the lyrics of The Cross is one of the worst decisions Prince ever made and I also much prefer the original arrangement. As for Purple Rain, the changes are less intrusive but they made me roll my eyes at the time. It may be more tolerable now... Prince treats his songs so casually -- just look at how he performs 1999, supposedly for the last time. Like burying a loved one in a cardboard casket.
My favorite part is probably She's Always in My Hair, and I also like Get Off and some other songs but there are many annoying flaws. Prince sometimes looks like he's bored and going through the motions. The Time are now too corny, performing these same two songs, with little kids dancing on stage during The Bird. Also, when Larry does his steps while speaking at the beginning of Everyday People... not to mention his former bandmates trip down the stairs. But the look on Prince's face when he shares a mike is priceless. [Edited 9/25/05 10:11am]

best parts were "she's always in my hair", "purple house", the intro to "kiss" when there was a funky fusion of different past cuts. The dvd is quite glossy for me, in the sense that it doesn't have the same raw energy as say sott or "lovesexy", Lenny is kinda boring, and prince totally outplayed him on the guitar front. Larry Graham got on my tits after a while 2.

4nowneway said: 85 AMAs was the best live version until 04 Grammys - Are you kidding? Grammy performance was visually great...but musically, very poor version of PR (heavily edited)... On the other hand, I liked Syracuse version of Purple Rain a lot also...

I like the beginning: Lets go crazy, she's always in my hair and the look. Thats a way to start a concert!.
Further down the concert the tention is getting away for some reason, like in a lot of the concerts i've seen. He just starts of greatm has some good moments in the middel but has some trouble ending it. 1999 is by far the most dissapointing part of the concert. (even worse than larry!)

Ok. I forgot a few other parts that I like: the splits (I only counted 8 splits also!), the part when he plays the drums, and....well...I hate to admit this....I really hate to admit this! I kinda liked the bass jam that he did with Larry. But ONLY because I love it when Prince plays bass. To GOD be the Glory!

Its the best live version of PR ever! yeah that was wonderful especially when he sings " if ur love is unconditional i believe i believe that this friendship it will never end." i think he was talking about his friendship with God. that was soo beautiful i had no idea that PRINCE was that spirtual.

Despite this dvd not really being an "org favorite", I really
love it. Some of the middle performaces with alot of Larry Grahmn I tend to skip over. But my faves are: Shes always in My Hair, Lets Go Crazy, Baby Knows, Baby Im a Star*, nothing Compares 2U, Gett Off etc. etc. etc. If you will, so will I
