David Spade

Remember when Prince was supposed to be on SNL but cancelled with no reason at the last minute? Of course, we know the reason why - the death of his child.

But David Spade was really an a-hole on that week's "Hollywood Minute" segment. He said a lot of crappy stuff about Prince, then he displayed a cornflake or something and said that was his new symbol.

I doubt Spade knew at the time why Prince cancelled, but he had to find out sooner or later. I've always wondered if Spade was man enough to call Prince and apologize. I don't think he ever apologized on the show.

Prince was to be on the season premier fall of 95, but had a Gold Experience release party instead. I think Blues Traveler filled in. Prince's baby didn't die until almost a year later, before the release of Emancipation. If I remember correctly.
And how much should we charge 4 that?
If u would prefer it we could just not do this at all.

I heard he was going to be on SNL in 93 toward the end of the Act 1 tour but cancelled due to a flu or something. Either way,Spade can be funny but sometimes a little too cruel for my taste.

I believe you are wrong on the dates. Prince cancelled his SNL appearance due to the death of his child.

DMart319 is correct, this SNL incident took place in 1995, while the death of his child was is 1996...though it is possible that he anticipated all of his problems from 1996 to present (whatever you feel they may be), and cancelled as a preemptive strike. (That is my assumption, anyway...and I do realize that when you make an assumption, you make an ass out of the ump and shawn.)

To tell you the truth I can't stand that Tom Petty look alike David Spade. He's so damn Corny. I even think his new show on comedy central sucks... He's garbage fo real. I can careless what he thinks about Prince. David Spade if you read these forums "which you probably do", I watched one of your movies and it sucked. lol

I was all set to tape that show. Imagine my disappointment when the Blues Travelers came on instead.

(Don't get me wrong...I like them...but they're no Prince)

David Spade was way harsh. I always wondered why Prince was a no-show.

No... David Spade cannot fuck with Prince... I'm sure prince could come out with a song that would destroy that lil punk.

I got a laugh out of it. Several of us gathered over a friends house to watch this, and we were just as pissed when Prince backed out of the show. David Spade called him a flake. I thought P backed out though because of creative differences?

Blues Traveler's appearance was indeed in 1995. So am I wrong that Prince cancelled an SNL appearance right at the time of his child's death?

You are, indeed, quite wrong. Prince's child died over a year later.

In fact, at the point of the SNL broadcast, Prince and Mayte were not married yet.

Well, crap. That's not the first time I've been wrong and I'm sure it won't be the last.

I still don't care for David Spade, though.
