It's that difficult to sit in your own home, switch on your computer and listen to a sample before purchasing and downloading a track?

Well being as her complaint is that she can't go to the store and buy an album anymore would be Prince's fault. Coupled with the fact that you need computer knowledge and a highspeed connection that would make it more difficult to obtain music.

Learn how to use a computer then. We're in an age where it's unacceptable to not know how.

Pay for broadband too. It's really not that expensive.

Broadband uses your normal telephone lines in conjunction with a different sort of modem, though you also need a company who provides the service in your area.

Most of Prince's stuff is available on CD. He has done that much stuff that it is unlikely everything would be stocked by your average music store anyway. But it is far more profitable for Prince to put out tracks for download since it eradicates the production and distribution costs inherent in a proper CD - especially when it is one-off tracks or experimental music that not many people would buy in sufficient numbers to recouperate the cost.

Downloading stuff from the NPGMC is pretty easy. You just need a credit card, and follow the instructions on screen. You can download the tracks without joining the NPGMC but doing so gives you a slight reduction on the price which is useful if you are going to be buying a lot. It takes longer for everything to load and download when you're on dial-up - but it is possible if you are patient.

And then you need a CD-writer to convert the files to a CD you can listen to in your car.

Oh well, yes it is a little complicated... biggrin

I don't believe that everyone can afford to own a computer, so how are they supposed to own songs like SST?

Yeah, that makes sense. But I still wish I could just go out, buy it, and jam to it in the car on the way home. Maybe I'm set in my ways, but I find it easier.

that's right! Plus the internet every month, the fee to download it. And then what are you supposed to do? Sit at your computer and listen to it? So then you have to pay for the disc to burn it on, or an ipod or something. It's all just too much if you ask me.....

Well, you're probably already paying for the internet.

I've bought tunes using dialup before. It ain't the speediest, but you can get a new song or two in an hour or less easily. And blank CD's aren't exactly 'spensive either.

Sad thing is today's yout's (sorry, I just saw My Cousin Vinny) get most, if not all there music on the computer. Whether downloading or ordering from Amazon, they don't have to step foot in a record store anymore, if they can find one that is. In my younger days, many a Saturday afternoon was spent with friends at Leopold's or The Wherehouse or Tower records checking out the albums and 45's.

I do miss the old days when all you had to do was walk into your local record store to buy your music. You would hear the first single on the radio, then grab a dollar and go out and buy a 45.A few weeks later, you would go back and get the album ($5.99 was a common price to pay for a new album).

lol oops,I'm showing my age here, huh?

I bet some of y'all don't even know about 45s,lol.

Yeah!!!When they announced on radio an album would hit the stores,
I just couldn't wait 'till it was Saturday so I could go
to the store-the only store who had the newest releases on time
was 15 km from my home,so we took the train and afterwards when to
Mac Donalds...yes,it was a whole day of fun!! lol
