TAFKAP - 94 East

Hello,

I've bought a cd in a local shop for only a few bugs but I don't now if it's a regular Prince cd.
On the front it says 'The Artist Formerly Known As Prince' and the title of the cd is 94 East. I don't know this record.
Also his symbol is not the symbol like it used to be.
Is it an illegal record or something.
This is the tracklist:

01 One Man Jam
02 Dance To The Music Of The World
03 Games
04 If You Like Dancin'
05 You See Me
06 Better Then You Think

Does anybody know something more about this record. Is it a legal thing or some rubbish record? Tell me all about it!!! biggrin

Thanks a lot,

Vince

Before Prince signed his first contract with WB, he worked with his cousin "in-law", Pepe Willie, on some studio tracks. The band was named 94 East (after the main highway that led from Minneapolis to New York City). Prince played guitar on most tracks, sang on some, and co-wrote a couple. After Prince hit it big with Purple Rain, Willie decided he needed to make some money because he felt he never got the credit he was due in helping Prince early in his career, so he cobbled together some of these tracks (which also feature Andre Cymone and Colonel Abrams) and released it at least three times (i think, maybe only two) in different forms. So it is legit in the way that Prince does appear on at least SOME of these tracks.

Also, "If You See Me" is a Pepe Willie written song that Prince re-arranged and re-recorded years later (from memory, according to Willie) as "Do Yourself A Favor", which ended up on Jesse Johnson's "Shockadelica" album in '86. Before you get too excited though, Jesse changed a little of it AGAIN, and the song is credited to him and Willie as co-writers; Prince gets no credit for JWJ's version.
