Songs that are better w/Headphones

Here's a topic I don't recall reading: List songs that definitely sound better heard through headphones. I mean, you know, you hear a song so many times, then suddently, you hear them through headphones and discover new sounds that you've never heard before. That kind of thing. Are there any Prince songs that are, in your opinion, enhanced by listening through headphones?

I believe all of it sounds better. There's nothing like shutting the world out for a bit and paying attention to what you're listening to.

I've seen this thread before. If I remember correctly, many orgers last time mentioned "Automatic" as a good Prince headphones song.

Wow, I don't recall reading a thread like this before. I better get to searching, then. But yeah, Automatic is quite different with the headphones on.

2 Nigs United for West Compton has soooo much going on in the background that is so much more appreciated with headphones.

Yeah, Automatic really does sound ALOT better with headphones.

You're right, I bought some sennheiser precision headphones for £300. An obscene amount of money I know but I've heard instruments on 1999 and Purple Rain that I've never heard before and I've been listening to them for 20 years.

I think it was mentioned especially how toward the end of Automatic it sounds (and feels) like Prince is behind you and, whispering in your ears. Then, when he comes back in and does the, " Haaaay!" it's too good... I love it.

Adore. You have NOT heard this song unless you've done so with headphones. Amazing.

Correct-o-mundo.

This thread was done a while back, if I'm not mistaken. A simple search should bring it up.

Yup - this kinda topic has been discussed many times on the org and I've had to say this each time, so excuse me if I'm repeating myself wink

But, the very best option is to go and listen to it on a proper, bona-fide audiophile hi-fi system! Will beat the crap out of ANY headphones, any day and make you think that you were actually listening to dirty(mind!) cds before that obscured all the detail.

All those stereo effects that are highlighted here (Prince behind you etc) are just not communicated by normal, everyday stereos, so peeps are usually unaware of it happening in the track (and just how much effort is put in to the production of a song). Headphones go some way to making this more apparent, as you are "locked in" to the sound and, well with speakers basically strapped to your ears, you're brain doesn't have to do much figuring out of where the sound came from(!), so all that panning is pretty clear.

But it ain't the proper 3-dimensional imaging you'll get from a top flight hi-fi. Even tracks like Loose! become amazingly tangible - that synth bass line just wrapping around you in all directions. And The Human Body - the way the percussion in the long breakdown at the end is just swirling around you in a circle (it won't quite sound that way on h/phones, it will sound like it is going left-right-left - on a hi-fi left-front-right-behind), in perfect time (gotta love those details!). Irresistable Bitch is another hi-fi highlight - that, strange, undulating, croaky sound that pervades the tune - just try working out where that sound is coming from! Adds great fun and added interest to the listening experience biggrin

If you're a music lover and you're listening to a Sony all-in-one system or something, for the same money you spent on the mass-produced stuff you'll get far better quality sound-to-die-for from a seperates system.

Prince is astonishing in a studio - his placement of sounds is just awe-inspiring.Peeps often talk about what a great musician he is, but he also excels as studio-wizard.

When my faith was questioned by Diamonds & Pearls, I realized while listening to Condition of the Heart on headphones that any one man who could do all that doesn't just "lose it."
