Small club

I was curious to know what everyone thought of this performance, i must admit, i was expecting it to be better than it was after hearing rave reviews for it, however i listened to it again all the way through today, and it has really grown on me. The people that were at that Holland gig are pretty lucky.

I dunno, if this is indeed his "best" bootleg cd then i guess i am slightly dissapointed, if anyone knows of any other's id like to know what they are

cheers!

I think the reason why Small Club is so revered is that it came out at a point when there were very few soundboard quality recordings available and as such it blew people away.

I remember getting a tape copy of at a market that was taken from the original x records version. I got it home and was over the moon I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!

I think that that is the point where I became a bootleg geek geek

It was a long time before I heard anything that approached the quality of 'Small Club' though. I know that recording as well as any of Princes officially released stuff which I guess speaks volumes.

Small Club I salute you! worship

I guess that you have heard other boots before you got Small Club so I appreciate that you may feel that it ain't what it's made up to be. Just keep listening though it'll grow on you!

It truly is an essential document of a man at the top of his game. headbang

I think the first two tracks of small club are the winners. I don't undersdtand the love for just my imagination or still would stand all time. But those first two: instrumental(includes lead line of Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic) and DMSR are too cool for school.

but everything else on those two tracks is dull... I'll go put it in the car and give em a listen to... the whole damn thing. I still love that first instrumental and dmsr... damn that's a funky version of dmsr.

Important about Small Club (Het Paard in The Hague) was that it was the first time he did a improvised show.

Now, the nostalgia rules. His recent band is much better imo.

U mean he improvised at Le new Morning, or he didn't impovise at all?

Let me rephrase: it was his first improvised aftershow that was brilliantly recorded.

He improvised alot at "Le New Morning", way more than at 't Paard gig which consisted mostly of songs "rehearsed" (to no end) at soundchecks during the LoveSexy Tour...

Let me rephrase: it was his first improvised aftershow that was brilliantly recorded.

Half true, it's a decent soundboard recording that needs alot of mixing...

The instrumental jam that opened the gig was just meant as a "soundcheck"...
"People Without" was mostly made up on the spot and "Still Would Stand All Time" was "rehearsed" a couple of times on the tour...

I too think that Small Club is a bit over-rated as far and away the best bootleg show out there , but I tend not to say it too often , its sort of an unwritten rule that you must adore Small Club above all other shows confused , whoever mentioned Neon Rendezvous , I'm with you , I prefer that rehearsal to Small Club any day .

God, I LOVE this gig!!! So loose and funky as shit!! Just wish there was a clearer copy floatin' around somewhere, but I'll just have to take what I have. It really shuts them fools up who sit there and say how unfunky the Revolution was or how the NPG (ANY incarnation of 'em) were/are better than them, especially this "extended" version of the Rev!!!
