Anyone who dislikes this must be a right miserable b*****d. The production is amazing. It sounds so unique. The instrumentation. I love Prince's "full" sound over his stripped down sound. Which is why I prefer "lovesexy" over "sign of the times". Plus i do generally like Prince's happy songs. I agree. The whole album's production is so unique; like NOTHING I've ever heard before. It's almost like a 'plastic' Prince sound. Just imagine what he was like in the studio...

near the end of the song, does he say... you want me to swim in your love sea...dontcha baby? or is he saying... you want me to swivel in your love seat....dontcha baby? I reckon it's that one.

I wasn't around at the time, but hearing "lovesexy" after "sign of the times" or "the blakc album" musta been either a trip or a fall.

The song has never really been my cup of tea. This is the most over produced song on the whole LP. I would love to hear the stripped down mixes of the album that Eric Leeds spoke of.

I've defintely grown to love it. Over all, I think that CD is overrated, but as a result, I think I've always undrerrated the few great tracks on it.

It's a gem. While not Prince's most original song, it's expertly crafted and much more effective than some other "anthems" he has attempted. The arrangement has just the right amount of everything and the vocals drip passion and conviction.
One of my favorite parts is probably the Love is wet part in the middle, especially at "Stomp your feet". [Edited 9/9/05 19:07pm] [Edited 9/9/05 19:08pm]

Great track.
Took me years to appreciate it. When I first heard it I was only 16 or 17. It was odd to me. THe voice changes. The instruments he chose, the fuzzy guitar work. It just sounded too different from his past records (although at that time, ALL his records sounded different from each other). But after hearing it again a few years latter I was blown away by the energy and zeal in the song. I do, however, feel that song is about vaginas.

Favorite song off the Lovesexy album. It has so much energy. It has the ability to get you fired up. (Insert something clever here)

I wasn't into Lovesexy when I first bought it.
Now I listen to it all the time. Everytime I comb my hair

Great song, but near the ending, it get's pretty interesting and funny because the song becomes a little too horny. I like the part where he says: "New power, new power, give it 2 me...Oh, it need some bottom in here... lay it on me." [Edited 9/9/05 22:01pm] Check me out and add me on:

Has been my fav Prince song 4 a long time and thinking about it now..
it think it still is!! It includes every style/sound Prince stands 4: Funky, great groove, guitars, horns, the lyrics(!) I don't know if it would have been a good single choice though, at the time I told a lot of people (non P-fans) this was my fav track and they said it was 2 "noisy". But I really think a good edited song would have done well. Album and song are his best production ever. Love4oneanother

I read every little statement and claim and yes this song is fantastic. I think this song inspired the also great bootleg "The Voice Inside" which is just as same in the same vein. It's good, but it's way overproduced and a little corny. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Why should everything be minimalist? When "overproducing" is done well, it's still good production.

Okay, well then it's just corny and not particularly great. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

well.... i don't think the term "overproducing" is EVER a compliment. it's like someone wearing too much makeup as far as i'm concerned--just a frinstance, y'know? i think the song lovesexy was corny, overproduced, mediocre, and actually now that i think about it, it was the FIRST title song of his that i just didn't care for. for you, dirty mind, controversy, 1999, purple rain, around the world in a day, (christopher tracy's) parade, and sign 'o' the times were all great songs as far as i'm concerned.... the song lovesexy just seemed like it was trying too hard to be liked. but then again, i feel that way about the LP too. the only OBVIOUS single on there to me was alphabet st. the rest of the album was too "well... guess you have to be a SERIOUS fan to get any of this". --gm-- i....feel.... cold as a razorblade, tight as a tourniquet, dry as a funeral drum......

But i do see ur point. "lovesexy" is easily one of his safest albums. It is so upbeat and fun most the time. For 1988, it woulda probery sounded way too soft to be considered rnb or even pop. Which is a shame.

I love the whole CD but the only songs that would have saved Lovesexy R 'When 2 R In Love' & 'Anna Stesia' as far as singles R concerned! Although the song 'Lovesexy' does have the baddest bass line. I think I would have liked 2 have seen 'Eye No' as a single but not 'Lovesexy or I Wish U Heaven'.

this was my fav track and they said it was 2 "noisy". But I really think a good edited song would have done well. I think this song is the most obvious "hit" single on the album. In fact,it could have even been the first single, imo. But yeah,it definitely would had to have been edited. The sexy talk with Cat near the end? It would have been removed for sure...lol

It is a cool song and definately should have been a single. Much better than "Alphabet St", that's for damn sure. P would have gone buck wild in the "Lovesexy" video. Him and Cat both. I know some of ya'll on here are going to flip out by this but, when I first heard the song, my first impression was that it reminded me of Jessie's solo shit at that time. The beginning of the song especially. The bass keyboard line, the melody line P is singing in his lower register. It just had a Jessie 85-86 vibe to it. Of course, P took it to a wilder level, which is what I dig about it. Here comes the hurling of the stones! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I agree, this could've been the rock/funk single off of that album, and I think it is a better example of Lovesexy (the album) than Alphabet St. is. Amazing bass line, perfect horns and subtle but awesome guitar work.
It would've been a nice segue between '87's U Got The Look and '89's Batdance.

I agree...the song reminds me of Jesse's music from this period. After the first chorus, when Prince says "dig me now",he sounds just like Jesse.
