I've listened to the song at least 20 times, but these anemic drum programming and lazy guitar playing ruin everything... neutral
NO WAY it'll become a classic. But then again, if you think this is better than Cream, I guess we have... "different taste". wink
Cool.

it is definatley a classic IMO!! nod

I think in time most people will get bored of the song and never play it much.

The song has no urgency, unfocused lyrics, and little resonance. Average little song, but pretty forgettable.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Its a nice track, but nothing more. No originality in the instrumentation particularly.

What happened to the Prince who sad he was just at the tip of the iceburg in creating original sounds.

Sounds like he likes staying on the tip to me.

That's what I'm wondering too. People can have their opinions, yadda yadda, but S.S.T. is so far from what I consider a Prince classic.

More of the same old derivative new Prince.

You mean find fault in a rainbow?

Nah. The song's just not that good.

When Doves Cry
Kiss
Adore
Purple Rain
Dirty Mind
Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)
The Beautiful Ones
The Question of U
Sign 'O' the Times
Let's Work

...And the list of classic songs by Prince goes on and on. SST just ain't one of 'em. Not even close.

Something in the water??... a classic?? confused BTW i alo feel that Adore is really overated, i mean it's a good song but not what i call "catchy" whre as SST is one of Prince's catchiest tracks ever! and SST sounds so damn fresh and breezy!

To me this is a classic as far as a benefit song. Most benefit songs are sad or written in that "we are the world" tempo. This is different, has a great beat and very uplifting, especially the chorus. I love this song.

His best of the last ten years? No offense, but it seems to me that some of us have been waiting a little too eagerly for a new song.

The music is interesting and well-crafted, but the lyrics need work. Too often, Prince writes and performs great music with lyrics that seem to have been written at the back of a napkin in five minutes top. Jotting down a series of loose references doesn't amount to depth. It's heartfelt but overly obscure. Songs like Reflection and Pearls b4 the swine work much better.

What are you talking about? Something in the water is a certified Prince classic, especially the piano version. Fans have been raving about it for decades.

Pearls B4 Swine? Trash lol.

Like I said, some of you folks here are fans of the "uninspired Prince."

Us fans of the "inspired Prince" dig this. Heck, its already on the radio, going to the 10 ten just as I predicted.

"Inspired" is pretty much in the ear of the beholder. Which is why you can't say you are one of the "fans of the "inspired" Prince" -- cuz it's only your idea of what he should sound like, nothing more, nothing less.

HAHA, I told you'all this song would bust the top 40.

I'm not into charts, as I know they represent weak tastes, but at least Prince is going to gain some notoriety from this single.

I like the song, but I don't think it's anything special. Kinda generic RandB-ish to the typical listener and too religious.

Actually, this song is typical early Prince-religious style. Early Prince would talk religion and in the next sentence talk about head.

This song is a good example. Talks about "guests in your tent" and then moves onto sweetest taboo.

You tell me what the hell its about?
