Is Darling Nikki a real person?

There was a thread in the last few days that answered your qquestion better than im about to, but I cant find it!

The person on the thread said that it was about vanity i think, cause he used to call her Nikki? But then when she left and Appolonia took her place, he kept the song.
Something like that! anyone care to expand on that?

Just to keep false information from spreading, Lisa mentions who it is about on the Purple Rain SE DVD. If you read her lips, and notice the look on Wendy's face, it is clear she was talking about Susannah.

Upon meeting Lisa, last month at Largo's, I asked if she could confirm that is what she said. Very reluctantly, she said 'yes.'

Now, having said that... was Susannah actually in a hotel lobby letting her fingers do the walking... or was Prince merely exaggerating about her sexual nature?

Only Prince, Susannah and God know what actually happened.

Wasn´t Apollonia´s movie character originally called Nikki ? If I recall correctly the original script to Purple Rain ( with Vanity playing the role of Nikki) was much better suited for that song because , if memory serves me right, the scene with Morris and Apollinia would have been Morris sitting there with Nikki(i.e Vanity), and Prince singing about Nikki ( who´s staying at the Huntington Hotel, don´t know if she hangs out in the lobby..).

Of course it might have been inspired by Susannah, but still, it fits perfectly in the original movie´s context.

All I know is I've read the lead female character's original name - back when Vanity was still slated to be playing her - in PR was to be "Nicolette", thus the shortened 'Nikki' in "Darling Nikki".

But yeah, the song itself for that scene in the movie was obviously depicting The Kid dissing the female lead. I just don't know how much REAL "dissing" of any REAL people (i.e. Susannah, Vanity, whoever) in Prince's life that song was supposed to be doing. IMO, it was for the movie only

I've never heard of the song being associated with Vanity or a character in the movie named Nikki.

Seems to me all the characters used there names/stage names, so I'm pretty sure if Vanity would've stayed in the movie, she would've been called Vanity.

What Kooleaze said is what I was trying to say. Trying to say that is, that this person in this other thread had said this!! I never said I knew!

Ive never seen that thing with Wendy and Lisa, but the explanation with Appollonia and Vanity sounds more realistic to me...
