Emancipation

It seems on the Prince messageboards I go to most people don't like this album but while it may not be his greatest it does have some good stuff on it.

I guess I could say albums since its three discs of music.

Anyhow i'm listening to "The love me make" now and it still sounds great.

There are also some others on here that I really like.

Seems like to me most people think this is an average album though.

After hearing all thats been said about the released version of Rave to the public and Musicology as of late I would think maybe if some people go back and listen to Emancipation maybe they might like it better than those now.

I haven't heard all of it, but I've definitely enjoyed all that I have heard. Like all his 90's stuff(or most) it's greatly underrated.

Yeah, it's too long and there's about a disc's worth of mediocre to poor stuff scattered throughout it, but it still has some damn fine tunes. I've always been a fan of it.

I love most of the material on Disc 1, I adore all of Disc 2. As for Disc 3, I'm really not feeling it. The album is way too long, spanning 3 hours worth of material on 3 discs, but it is a great record if you take it in tiny parts. I don't know if it's one of my faves, though. Emale and Dreamin' About You are my top favorite jams on this whole joint.

Disc II is pretty consistently beautiful and stunning.

Then there are a few really special stand out songs on Discs I and III (most notably Face Down and The Love We Make).

The rest mostly sounds like cheaply produced, plastic, sometimes even half-assed bullshit.

I do admit it sounds like he used a lot of computers on here instead of live instruments at least in some places thats how it sounds. I believe thats what a lot of people don't like about it.

I think it's much better than Rave, but not as good as Musicology, which is just more consistent and, well, musical.

Snap

The set has several amazing songs, but out of all of his albums, this one has more "filler" than any other. I think that's the problem. But the whole thing, in general, has a real good feeling to it... Prince had fun making this one and it shows.

And yeah, "The Love We Make" is a gorgeous tune -- one of the best! Great lyrics too.

I thought Emancipation could have been a GREAT solo CD with the right mix of songs.

I love this album . disc 3 is the only so so disc . But stll " One of Us " kicks ass and so does "La La La means I love You " I wish he did more songs of this album live but it seems to represent a bad time in his life . He didnt do one song of this album at the Musicology concert in Tampa FL .
