Is Prince's personality fundamentally flawed?

I've just read the Kevin Smith thread and it got me wondering.....I know that he's always sang about love and searching for 'the one' who was 'just around the corner' whilst moaning that he'd 'got a broken heart again' but, really, if you look below the surface.....does Prince seem a little cold and detached??EVIDENCE:he never holds down a relationship (even now reports confirm this!!).....the name change thing (an excuse to not honour his contract while continuing to make money).....what REALLY happened when Mayte had their baby??
I love the blokes music and artistry but, I don't think that I would like to count him as a friend.....he seems a little bit fickle to say the least! What do you think??

is this quite apparent..i mean with great fame and power people tend to turn rotten..(e.g. morrissey..arthaur rimbaud)

Who doesn't have 'flaws'? That's what makes us human.

And weepingwall - perhaps such people had these 'flaws' to begin with and fame/power accentuated them.

NO-ONE is perfect. That's what makes life interesting.

yes this true, but you see fame puts more wood on the fire making it into a great abyss of egostical-hedonism.

i think he's gotten better over recent years, but he's always going to be impossible, and he's always going to make loopy demands. but if he didn't, would he still be prince?

Agreed. But people are people and - whether we're famous or not - we'll still have 'fundamental flaws' (whatever they may be)(what may be a 'flaw' to me, might not be one to you). But, yes, I think power/money/fame can magnify these - or be used in a positive way. It all depends on the individual.

And as Anxiety says, if Prince was some Joe Schmoe - this site wouldn't have half as many members.

I can see your point.....but, really, should a guy like this be idolised?? Should he be influencing people to adopt his way of thinking?? Is it okay to sue people left right and centre.....is it okay to walk away from people who disagree with you??

i don't think he wants to be idolised. well...as a musician and an artist, maybe. but i don't think he really gives a toss what people think of how he conducts his day to day business.

You'll have to pick each and every single musician, writer, painter, sculptor, whatever, and compare them, then. Find the ones without character 'flaws'.

My guess: you won't find many.

No more than anyone else. People in show biz all have fragile egos generally, Jesus look at Madonna, Elton John, what's his face from Galdiator etc. If Prince were a nice , normal 40 something then he wouldn't be Prince anymore!, his ego is the flip side to his creativity. It's pretty obvious that Larry has had a calming influence and has apparently helped P rebuild some bridges.

what talk is he not walking?

to quote ice cube, back when he was still a badass: "i ain't no MFin' role model!!!" lol

i think prince has only ever wanted his fans to follow his music and art. he may have had a spiritual/political/social manifesto thrown in here and there, but i've never gotten the idea he's ever wanted his words to be "followed".

Lighten up man.....no wonder they call you Anxiety!! I'm only saying that I think a lot of people have noticed that Prince's love for God doesn't necessarily extend to his love for his fellow man/woman!! I certainly don't want to get too deep and talk about manifestos wink

its the flaws in each of us that make us so special and who we are. imagine if no one had flaws, we would just all be one clone after another. what good is that?

nod Exactly. Before people put P under a magnifying glass, they should keep in mind that he is artist and is not w/out character flaws just like anybody else. hmmm On a side note, I don't see artist like Ozzie Osborne go through this much scruntiny while and him and his wife have did more heinous shit than P could ever do in lifestyle and the legal department. Talk about a double standard here.

i think if i were a *celebrity* i'd become goofier than a hedgehog on smack.

how can any person retain their sanity under those circumstances? just the constant scrutiny alone would be enough to turn a normal person psychotic. NOT that i'm saying prince is psychotic.

I don't care for focusing on his negative qualities. I am not in a close relationship with him. So, it doesn't matter. I only care about the music he composes.

Yes it is Flawed! BUT I dont care, I think it is funny as hell when he gets in his little moods.

All I care is when a new album or songs comes out! cool

But it is allot of funny to see how odd he can be from time to time. razz lol
