Can You Listen to Prince Music when You're Sad?

With Most of his music being upbeat and/or lyrics

pertaining to Love, being in or falling in Love...I

find it hard to listen to it after a break-up or a sad

time...anybody else feel this way?...It usually takes

a few days to be able to get back into it.

True, his music is uplifting...but when u associate his music with the girl who just broke up with u, even the good stuff hurts.

I do listen 2 Prince when I'm down...Although I'm in a great marriage and have been for almost three years, in relationships past when I was down-I'd throw on the Prince music...he writes some of the best "U wronged me songs." I love his pained songs...Off the top of my head I can think of If I was your girlfriend-Something in the water-I hate U-even "She's always in my hair" sounds like he's hurt in his voice 2 me...There's plenty others 2 add to this list...It's weird because sometimes I miss feeling that intense "depression"...of a "fuc**d up relationship...But it is a good thing that my life is so great nowadays...Aloha~

Therapy

i find that certain tunes helps get me through real down times. And certain tunes resonate with my feelings and bring them to the surface quickly. I like that feeling. In a weird way, I feel the music is supporting me.

Prince's music has been the ONLY remedy 4 me when I'm down ... his music has gotten me thru so much ... disfunctional family, broken engagement, suicidal thoughts.
I could be listening 2 a tape and my ears would zoom in on certain parts usually ignored, i.e. the repeated "don't cry" chant at the end of When Doves Cry ('specially on the bootleg version which goes on 4ever).
With me, there's a pattern with his songs.
For example, Gotta Broken Heart Again -> Condition of the Heart -> Sweet Baby -> SexyMF -> Gett Off = ME being the sexiest, most desirable MF 2 ever step in front of a mirror. lol
He's always had so many uplifting songs, in various capacities ... TRUTHfully, he had the right formula all along. PEACE

When i'm feeling blue the tracks i always listen to are:

"Gotta Broken Heart Again" and segue that into "Broken" both recorded and live edits. Both songs always seem to make me feel better and then move on to something new "Gotta Broken Heart", would be my low point and then "Broken" would get me back up even though both are considered begging songs but great none the less.

another one that would come close is Donna.

listening to prince usually cheers me up. listening to the song 'free' is the one i usually listen 2 if i need to be reminded i'm not alone and that's things will get better.

Pagey

Prince music has always made me feel better when I'm a bit blue. In fact, most music helps me, but Lovesexy, Parade, or (now) TRC, can usually make it feel like its not all that bad.

Prince music is almost the only thing I listen to when I feel down. It ususally doesn't matter what song, but I've made special CDs for when I need them most.

And on a completely unrelated note:
Could U please orgnote me on how to get the bootlegs of When Doves Cry?... smile

Prince music always cheers me up, but "Eye Love U But Eye Don't Trust U Anymore" and "Eye Can't Make U Love Me" really make me sad when I hear them. Hit a raw nerve or something because they just make me feel all uncomfortable. Love the tracks, but I guess my mind doesn't sad

depends on if i prefer to get further depressed, or want to come out of it...

if i want to really wallow in my misery, i can listen to leonard cohen, or anything country.

prince will inevitably cheer me up (especially lovesexy or TRC)

Always.
When I'm sad, I just kill the lights, light the candles, crack a bottle of wine, sit on the floor with my guitar, and my entire Prince collection.

Of course.
What sets Prince apart from other songwriters is he's not just crafting a catchy rhyme or looking for a cool play on words, although he certainly knows how to do both.
He's singing from and with emotion. And the best songwriters know how to do that -- to kill you with just the right combination of words and music.
Listen to ``Goodbye.'' What do you feel? I feel grief, regret, bitterness, sorrow. Sounds pathetic. But anyone anxious to wallow in more than a little self-pity has the perfect soundtrack in this song.
Want a little New Age with that whine? Try ``Solo.''
Got Coffee House blues? Drown your sorrows with ``So Blue.''
Want a one-man chorus proclaiming your pain? Turn on the severely under-appreciated ``Man o'War.'' That was a song he was clearly proud of, but fans and critics panned it. (I loved it.)

I have a Prince song for every occasion or mood. Even when I'm sad.

Songs like "Another Lonely Christmas" are really good to listen to when I am really down.

I remember after a break-up i couldn't stand 'the most beautiful girl in the world' for months, cause that was sorta our song. I used to play it on her birthdays and stuff like that.

But songs like 'there is lonley' 'old friens for sale' 'don't talk to strangers'...are quite enjoyable when ur down. smile
