What country are you from? These results do not reflect chart positions and dates for Billboard charts in the United States.

its strange, in england the songs you would have thought would have done well, like diamonds and pearls and rasberry beret (to name but two)only got top 30, whereas songs like my name is prince and gold got high in the charts!

Interesting to see it re-arranged with Prince's UK hits in order of chart position:
1 The Most Beautiful Girl In The World 1994 2 1999 / Little Red Corvette (re-issue) 1985 2 Batdance 1989 4 When Doves Cry 1984 4 Gett Off 1991 4 Sexy MF 1992 5 Controversy 1993 6 Kiss 1986 7 Let's Go Crazy / Take Me With You 1985 7 Thieves In The Temple 1990 7 My Name Is Prince 1992 8 Purple Rain 1984 9 Alphabet Street 1988 10 Sign O' The Times 1987 10 1999 (re-issue) 1999 10 Gold 1995 11 Girls And Boys 1986 11 U Got The Look 1987 11 Betcha By Golly Wow 1996 14 Peach 1993 14 Partyman Sep 1989 15 Cream 1991 18 Paisley Park 1985 18 The Beautiful Experience 1994 19 Money Don't Matter 2 Night 1992 19 The Holy River 1997 20 If I Was Your Girlfriend 1987 20 Eye Hate U 1995 24 I Wish U Heaven 1988 25 1999 1983 25 Raspberry Beret 1985 25 Diamonds And Pearls 1991 26 New Power Generation 1990 27 The Arms Of Orion 1989 27 7 1992 28 Thunder 1992 29 I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man 1987 29 Glam Slam 1988 30 Letitgo 1994 33 Purple Medley 1995 36 Anotherloverholenyohead 1986 36 Dinner With Delores 1996 40 1999 (re-issue) (re-entry) 2000

holy river should have been no.1. i only started listening to that on friday 12th, it blew me away, the fuitar solo is so good, i love the way the song builds up, ive had emancipation since 1998 or 99 but never listened to the 2nd disc

It's okay, but I wouldn't say it was worthy of number 1. There are a few singles that you would have expected to do better - but without knowing the competition at the time and level of promotion, it can give a bit of a false image. Batdance was prevented from reaching number 1 by something I think. As far as The Holy River, Prince said Warner's wouldn't let him release this sort of single, about god or too religious sounding, so it was his way of showing his freedom. He performed this one on Top of the Pops, ever see that? Great guitar solo. It's a pretty good chart history really compared to a lot of artists - but for a complete picture, we need to add singles that failed to chart. In the UK if it doesn't get in the top 40 it is said to have failed to chart, so Cinnamon Girl would fall in that category. What about The Greatest Romance? Any others? [Edited 8/16/05 15:43pm]

well, there is a top 75 i discoverd a few weeks ago, so musicolygy and cinamon girl would of been in that, they wernt in da top 40 cos they no publicity over here, musicolygy (the album) got to no.3 cos there was an advert for it, as for the single musicolygy, the video was totp but nothin else, cinamon girl, nothing at all

"The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" is Prince's best known tune in Europe. Not "Purple Rain" or "Kiss". Certainly not "Kiss".

i live in england i think i no, all the songs in da top 30 are known, stuf like i hate u or gold isnt, but purple rain and kiss are

I'm surprised Diamonds and Pearls didn't do too well. That's the main tune most non-fans remember from that album(in the states), not Cream. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Hardly everyone. Prince's two best-known songs are "Purple Rain" and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" in Europe. I have never heard "When Doves Cry" played on radio, ever. "Nothing Compares 2 U" is well-known, as are some of the hits from "Diamonds & Pearls" (namely "Diamonds & Pearls" and "Cream"). Everyone of my age group remembers "Sexy MF", but that's just because of the profanity value. Some folks still recognize "Batdance". "Kiss" is quite known, but very few non-Prince fans know "Let's Go Crazy", "U Got The Look" or "Little Red Corvette". [Edited 8/18/05 2:46am]

There was a documentary about Britney Spears beginnings on the other night - the first song she sung on the Mickey Mouse Club was, to quote the program, 'A cover of Chaka Khan's 'I Feel 4 U''.
