51 Hours Okay, the official story is that this was a track by "Diamond & Pearl", but it's pretty obvious that its Carmen rapping it, so what is the story here? Was Carmen originally intended to be Diamond, and later replaced when P decided to expand on her rapping career? (stop laughing. I know Carmen rapping is funny, but I'm asking a serious question here).
This is one of the holes in my Prince knowledge that I'm trying to fill here (hey, I said knock it off with the laughing! I mean it!) Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Surely you meant "wrapping". Then again it's what's underneath that counts.

Okay, so no one knows of Carmen was the orginal "Diamond"? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

According to The Vault:
Australian techno producer Mark Forrester recorded the basis for this techno-style offering. Prince met him while working at Platinum Studios in April 1992 on the Diamonds and Pearls tour. Prince liked the track and added to the existing recordings by having Diamond and Pearl add a rap amongst other things. The song was actually aired on Spanish radio in the summer of 1992 and was said to be due for release after the Diamonds and Pearls tour. The song features some Prince vocals, but primarily consists of Diamonds and Pearl rapping over a fast techno beat. A 12-inch release, featuring a longer verion of the track, was prepared but never released. This version places greater emphasis on Prince's vocals and has a few additional lyrics.

Well, I can't imagine anyone having a rap like hers. It has its own, annoying style that just can't be mistaken. Diamond & Pearl did a mini promo tour on their own. Anyone remember the Subtarania gig at Ladbroke Grove?
I went for a drink with Pearl after that show, and she said they never sang on a thing. So I'm with Jedimaster on this one. .

Its good to get answers! How is it a conspiracy? I'm just wondering if Carmen was originally suppossed to be "Diamond" and Prince decided to go a different route. I don't see any "conspiracy" there.
