well, he's not of this era. he's probably considered classic rock to teenagers now, the way that people when i was a teenager looked at, say, little richard. they weren't around when prince was hot and doing his craziest stuff. forgive 'em. they don't know....

These teens are growing up in a toxic music environment.

Everywhere they go, whether it be radio, tv, or school, today's garbage is exposed everywhere.

It's understandable why they haven't discovered Prince's genius and might discard him as some washed up pop star of yesteryear.

It's too bad, but it's definitely no shocker.

In my experience, most teenagers know Prince and say they like him, but maybe only know a few songs. Very few of them actually don't like him, and I've come across one who doesn't know who he is. I'm 20, and have been seriously into Prince for about a year and a half,

Because the only music they know is bullshit because it has dominated for 15 years. They can't help it, they were born into a bullshit musical era with no signs of change any time soon.

I was a Prince fan since as long as I can remember. Through my child years, young years, when I was a teen, till now. I a lot of my friends when I was a young teen like U, my close close friends had no problem with Prince, in fact some of my friends liked a couple of Prince's songs and enjoyed it. Some of my friends when I was Ur age apprecaited Prince but would'nt so 2 speak buy his music. Some of my other friends would litterly say"Fuck Prince". We'd get in arguements over some things. After that I would say"Fuck U" in fun and that would B it.

This random girl at a bustop blurted out to me that she really thinks Prince is "fucking sexy". She was a chav. She only looked 13 or 14. I found it bizarre. I then mentioned Michael Jackson to her, and she went "hell yeah, but Prince could lick my pussy real good, unlike Mike, but I bet he's got a huge cock". It was something as silly as that.

Interesting theories there.

Snap

you won't hear teens say such things about other rock stars not in their generation -- hendrix, janis, the stones, the ramones, etc. when the kids' own icons start talking about Prince (e.g. Alicia Keys, Outkast, etc.) then he'll start gaining more respect. it's just gonna take some time. or, unfortunately like other legends, he may not get total respect until after he's dead. heck, it seemed to work for cobain, didn't it? not like he deserves even half of that idolization. does anybody? no matter. as long as Prince just keep doing what he do.

This attitude is not a teenage thing. Lots of older folks find Prince "gay" and don't like his music. He is not as commonly accepted as, say, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder or The Beatles, even though he combines aspects of all three. If you are a Prince fan, it's just your lot in life to know what the majority of people don't suspect. Prince was never really mainstream -- even when he was having huge hits, he wasn't everybody's cup of tea.

Well, as I've said before , Legs has been a admiring his music since 78'. Now, with that being said, I must point out from day one that I've noticed his music is always been quite complex for some to catch on teens and adults alike (if you're too square you simply won't get it). So, that's why till this day some teenagers don't dig it b/c its for the grown and sexy. His music always has been for the grown and sexy and will continue to be even minus the swear words.

highfive That's right legs. I was into Prince as a kid and even then I knew I was into someone real different and set apart from everyone else. I know one thing, I'm glad I had the sense to "get it".

Suprisingly a lot of young kids digged for old school or their parents music and you can look up the net and they have done articles about it. My younger siblings like Prince and also Michael Jackson and some old 80's electro funk so I guess it is my fault biggrin

So don't lumped all teens together. Yes there going to be some that only like what's now and been like that every generation but there are somes that going to like old school. Take for instance i was twelve when i started to like Prince and also that i like 70s disco and also 80s early rap r&b and disco too. I didn't care for the 90s music at the time but I did appreciated later on though and you should hear the criticism i got of liking music before my time. oh well

Hey it not the total fault of some youth's lack of music history, I really think that they need a US music history in school. I can't believed that they thought Purple Rain came out in the 90s and that Prince is a new artist. WUT? Anyway it gets worst these kids thought that Missy Elliot and Ciera's song was new and Missy created. Oh No way! Cybortron(sp?) done that beat back in 83 when electro funk was popular in certain cities. and when I told my older brother ( and he should known better since he is two years old than me) and younger sister that it wasn't Missy's beat they thought I was lying and even I have to prove to them by play the Cybortron song and you should seen the look on their faces.

Ok, let's look at it in perspective shall we?

(Barring some teenagers here on the org)

If you were a 16 year old with raging hormones, gaining a few freedoms you never had before, wanting to get laid, possibly experiment with some drugs, a 5 foot 3 inch man nearing his fifties talking about good behavior, the perils of the music industry, and how Jehova recued all those poor children from the digital garden, it would be a hard act to sell.
