COME - the long song

i was listening to music on my Ipod in the train and i decided to play the COME album. it has always been a favourite of mine. when i was listening to the first song, i just knew i had to start a thread about it to praise it.

because:

-the horn players on the song are just brilliant. they each get a solo too and these solo's just never bore.

-next to the lead, Prince did an amazing job with the backing vocals, they are a bit low in the mix, but they are amazing.

-the arrangement is done very well. there is bass, there's scratching and a nice keyboard sound used in the end, but all used sparingly, it's not overproduced.

-the song builds up to a moving and appropiate climax. you never really notice the song is so long.

-it's sexy. it's nasty. it's PORNFUNK. "can i suck you baby? can i fuck you baby? i wanna suck you baby" drool

-Mayte has never sounded better.

-it's a great album opener.

-it segues beautifully into SPACE.

I like all the versions, but the part the horns do on "With my tongue in the crease, baby, I go round when I go down, down," in the album version is cool.

Amen to that. I've yet to hear any other versions, though. I've been hunting those every once in a while...

I like all the versions of this song. I was listening to this when I was coming into L.A. on Sunday and I just remembered how much I liked this song. In fact, listening to the album, it was the first time I really enjoyed the whole thing. I miss the 93-95 era.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I really dislike the album version. The original, Glam Slam Ulysses version is far superior, IMHO. "Maybe U should wrap yo legs around my neck 4 a while. See if eye can make U smile".

What's Glam Slam Ulysses?

It was a dance show, featuring many of the songs recorded in 1993. Many of these wound up on Come and The Gold Experience

Here's the track listing of the show:

INTRO

STRAYS OF THE WORLD

DOLPHIN

INTERACTIVE

PHEROMONE

DARK

LOOSE

SPACE

ORGASM/WHAT'S MY NAME?

ENDORPHINMACHINE

RACE

COME

STRAYS OF THE WORLD (Reprise)

POPE

The version of Come that appears is COMPLETELY different, with only a few of the lyrics being the same. It is a cool, sexy dance number instead of a long, drawn out seduction ballad.

I like this version lots! But I recently fell in love
with the early version of the song that still has the
lines

maybe you should come with me
maybe you should wrap your legs
around my neck for a while
and see if I can make you smile

It's from a certain DVD we were given by a certain
very cool Hamster at the Invasion

agreed. I love the instrumental end of this song. It' s one of my favourites. It' s very sexy, it makes you horny.

Where can I get the original version of this song?
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

The horns always reminded me of the band Chicago.

The bootleg version is too cold sounding, the album version is warm and soulful. Amazing chorus.

His vocals are tops here.

His slurping sounds might be him sucking on his own picture. lol
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
