songs that should have been album closers

Anyone else agree that prince sometimes doesn't sequence his albums the way he should? If the Beatles taught us anything, it's that ending on the absolute most incredible note you've got is the best way to inflate the image of an album (not a diss to the Beatles, but I firmly believe that 70% of the reason everyone thinks Sgt. Pepper is the greatest album ever made is because it has just about the best ending of any album). Anyway, here's some songs I think Prince should have saved for last on his albums

The Cross-probably prince's best spiritual song, and I think his best power ballad next to Purple Rain (and actually somewhat better because it has absolutely no trace of 80s cheesiness). He ended the SOTT tour program with it? Why not the album?

Anna Stesia-Easily the most haunting yet powerful song on Lovesexy, and the best summation of the message of the album, but to stick it in the middle is just a crime. Then again that orgasmic peak sequence from Alphabet Street-Lovesexy, is one prince's best...

Baby I'm a Star-I know I'm gonna catch a lot of hell for this, but for me, it's better to end on a riotous, ass-shaking note than a profound tear-jerking note. I would die 4 u followed by Baby I'm A Star was a great ending for the movie, and I think the album could've benefited from it as well

Lady Cab Driver-For me, this is the true ending of 1999, following it up with a comparatively mediocre dance groove that goes on for way too long and yet another sensual slow grind was not a wise move.

The Ladder-not to be a Temptation hata, but this is one case where A ballad would've been the right way to end. Put temptation sooner (or on a B-side and replace it with She's Always in my hair) and end the album here and you've got yourself a wiener...if you're a boy that is.

Cases Where prince ended it just right

Sometimes it snows in april-perfect ending for the album, although I kind of liked the way movie put Mountains at the end....eh I'm just confusing myself now

Partyup-Probably my favorite prince album finish...hell I don't even like dirty mind that much, but I've had periods of complete addiction to this; expressing such an angry protesting dance to such a damn catchy dance track.

No question,"Anna Stesia" should have been the closing track on 'Lovesexy'.It sounds like the big finale of a movie or play. When Rolling Stone reviewed this album, they also suggested that it would have made a remarkable closing number.

I also think that "Three Chains O Gold" should have been the closing number on the 'Love Symbol' CD.It seems silly to follow up this big, grand number with the lame "Sacrifice Of Victor".

One of the few times I'd disagree with you David. boxed I see what you're saying but those closing bars of 'Positivity' - that is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. So tranquil, so peaceful. Especially the live version at the end of 'Alphabet St'.

I get the chils every time I hear it. cloud9

Well, if you think about it, Anna Stesia kind of was a closer...to the first side of the album, on vinyl and cassette. I think it worked in that context when it was originally released. But, I actually agree, it's one hell of a closer. I thought it was the perfect choice to end One Nite Alone Live.

No, Adore was the better choice. I always thought of as that...he starts with death and despair and ends with love and devotion. The album, in other words, starts out with bleak reality, channels through the many diversions that we have in this life, and ends by saying that love is the answer. The Cross is just part of the journey, not, in my mind, the final destination.

I liked that he ended it positively. Anna Stesia would end the album on kind of a downer.

Not a bad thought. I don't know, PR just ends the album with such an exclaimation mark. I think the album sequence is just about perfect but I see your point.

Lady Cab Driver-For me, this is the true ending of 1999, following it up with a comparatively mediocre dance groove that goes on for way too long and yet another sensual slow grind was not a wise move.

There is not really a natural closing song for this album. Lady Cab Driver would work just as well as International Lover in my estimation

Agree completely with this. Temptation would have been a better B-side and She's Always in My Hair would have been an ideal album track/third single.
All good things they say never last...
