Nothing Compares 2U I just love the version on the hits/bsides he does with Rosie.
I know Sinead took it and made it a big hit but still I love that one since we never got to hear a released version he did. What I wanted to know is on that recording it sounds like its live and you can hear the crowd in the background. Does anyone know if it was a club or a concert and if a concert which one was it from and do any of you have it? Also those of you who've seen him do it in concert or have been to somehow come up with cds of him performing it in concert what is the best version of it you have heard him do? or is the one on the hits cd the best? I've always wondered about this great song. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Prince made a studio version of Nothing Compares 2 U as a demo for The Family. The version Prince released on The Hits is indeed live. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I know its live. I'm mainly trying to figure out where it came from. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

So it came from a show he did at Paisley Park. Anyone know if its circulating? "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Beautiful song. "Nothing Compares 2 U" sences a passionate love between 2 people. I feel the lyrics as of "Adore", "When 2 R In Love" and other strong ardent love ballads. This song is up there. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Have to say that I much prefered Sinead's version to the live Prince & Rosie
one on the Hits. It was a bit too 'vegas'y for my liking, and I didn't think the song really worked as a duet very well. The original Family version was better, but Sinead's version is the one. Prince did do a much better solo rendition on the Nude tour (pity that wasn't used on the Hits instead, or even better his original demo version).

The interesting thing is, when you listen to Sinead O'Connor's version, you hear typical Prince vocal phrasings all over the place - still Sinead could only have heard The Family's version at the time!
This is an example of how influential Prince is as a vocalist - I guess he recorded a demo vocal, which Paul Peterson (?) listened to and copied a little bit when he then sang it. And then Sinead listened to him, and did her own version - and it still has Prince all over it!

The Nude tour version was the perfect mix of both the original, with a bit of the Sinead version's arrangement thrown in.

Since P's former manager who went on to manage Sinead recommended the song to her as a potential hit, he may have had Prince's demo in his posession... hmmm... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I don't even like it. Sineads is beautiful, but for me, The Family's cut gives me the most grins. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I TRULY Love the version from a nude tour bootleg rehearsal.
Every splash hit by Micheal B. give me gooseflesh. Also The ONA Tour in Belgium featured a double sax solo per4mance with Eric and Candy. That was so great to hear the amazing Candy's improvisation and then the true masterpiece original solo by Eric Leeds. Steph.

The Family's version is the best version. The music is better and Paul does a nice job mourning. "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --

Hmm looks like I can't find an original Family version, only Prince's and Sinead's. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.
