1999 CD - Embarrassing? I was reading last Sunday's local paper (The Plain Dealer). Every week they have a little question and answer column, where they ask people different things. One of the questions that they always ask is "What's the most embarrassing CD in your collection?" I almost died, because the person whose answers they published last Sunday said, "Prince - 1999". Which got me to thinking, why does this guy find it embarrassing to admit that he has a Prince CD in his collection? Shoot, 1999 was a great CD, full of great dance songs. Maybe his friends and family razzed him for it or something, but still, he should be man enough not to be ashamed of it. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. | |

You should be embarassed to not have it as far as I'm concerned. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Normally, I would be insulted, but I think you're right. I see you're from Ohio too, I was wondering how you had heard of Michael Stanley Band. Most people are like "Michael who?" [Edited 7/12/05 18:23pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. | |

I think we need to go find out where this guy lives and kick his ass. You can focus your attacks on the head, neck, limbs, and torso. I'll take care of the genitals. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I think I see where he's coming from.
The embarassment is not about the quality of Prince's work. It's that it is Prince. | |

as has been said 1999 is full of dance tracks, i would say funky dance tracks. 1999 in my opinion that was prince's last lp full of funky dance track. if you liked prince because of that, one might see him as a washed up act (as far as funky dance tracks go) and be ashamed you brought it. The embarassment is not about the quality of Prince's work. It's that it is Prince. oooooh. that does make sense. the whole macho "prince is too effeminate" thing. if only guys would realize that having diverse, open-minded musical interests makes them more appealing. | |

Well, it might be that. But also the change-your-name-to-a-symbol and any number of things. If people ask me if I like Prince, I normally tell them the truth: That I think he's talented, but I mostly just want to plug my penis in his little hole. | |

Had to be a misprint. It should have read "1999 The New Master". If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

Don't let it bother you too much, he is only one person in a world of billions who is slightly misinformed. Bless him and send him a copy of TC Ellis's CD, that should make him happy. Jeux Sans Frontiers | |

Because this silly hip hop generation sees it as an embarrasment. Back in the day, this was considered to be a hardcore bad ass album and you weren't shit if you didn't have it in your collection. Nowadays, most people don't know what jams are. Andy is a four letter word. | |

[Edited 7/13/05 11:53am] "graffiti bridge" album had alot of uptempo funky dance tracks. That was the closest to "1999" in party feel I reckon. | |

----- Co-Sign. People today don't know anything about jams. I don't think anyone is going to come along and bring us any jams. Forcing us to get jamming to a classic like 1999. In addtion, some of the younger generation find it funny to make fun of anything from the 80's. | |

And then they turn around and sample the 80s in their songs....except they slow the tempo of the sample down enough for them to talk over it. [Edited 7/14/05 16:30pm] Andy is a four letter word. | |
