Is the video any good? Does sheena look good like in that camp "lover in me" video?

i like it. WELL under-rated.

and no, i'm not being funny. i just never quite understood the hatred towards this song. the strings at the end alone should tell you something... good song.

Man, thats crap. At the end of "partyman" the vidoe says something like "it ain't over" or something like thar, but it was mad I love "partyman" and "batdance". I hoped "arms..." woulda continued the trend.

I have to admit that every once in awhile, when no one is paying attention to me, I will put this song on and stand in front of a full length mirror. And then, singing only the Sheena parts, I pretend I'm in a field of whispering dandelions, with Prince in my arms and...then I...um...uh...

Did I just type that out loud?

Yes. I love that song.

I like it too.

I think the vocals are great.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

That one was something truly different, alright. Gotta love the ending part of it though. Not just because it ends, but cause it's quite Prince-y afterall.

I'd also be interested to see what it is that people hate about this song. I can't see what's so bad about it! I like it. hmmm

Is it because:

~ it's not 'out there' or weird?
~ is it because it's too pretty?

I know this is Prince doing an Andrew Lloyd Webber (and, believe me, I can't stand him) but surely that's the intention? Unless anyone's forgotten, Prince is a songwriter. Part of that job is to compose melodies and hummable tunes. Yeah, I love it when Prince gets nasty and freaky on us but I swear people around here expect every single release to be some ground-breaking, genre-busting juggernaut.

See that thread about the last time Prince made your heart beat triple time? Okay, I know what people mean when they name an album from the 80's; I know exactly where they're coming from. But, really, I just feel lucky to appreciate the vast majority of his music - and not as a 'fam'. I've got his 'nasty' music to listen to when I wanna get nasty, I've got his 'pretty' music to listen to when I, er, wanna get pretty. Whether it's ground-breaking or not is another issue but I'm just happy for what I've got. So if his next release is a yodelling album, co-produced by Kirky J and featuring Mayte whistling in the background - bring it on. (Actually - scrap that - there are limits lol ). If people don't like this song just because they don't like it, though - I understand that. But it must be hard for someone like Prince to have fans, sometimes - we expect far too much.

Just to put this in perspective, I read a fantastic Bruce Springsteen interview recently and one line in particular made me think of Prince:

BS: "I tend to be a subscriber to the idea that you have everything you need by the time you're 12 years old to sdo interesting writing for most of the rest of your life - certainly by the time you're 18. But I do find it helps me with form, in that something may just inspire me, may give me an idea as to the form I'm going to create something in, or maybe the setting.... It's all kinds of things... So when you go to record with your band, you have all these sounds, you've created a bank".

I like this song boxed

It's just a nice pop ballad, clearly intended to be the "love theme" from the 'Batman' movie.Yes,it is big and schmaltzy, like most pop ballads are (you can easily imagine Celine Dion covering this song, lol),but I think it's a good song.

without 2 much over analysis, i simply find the song 2 sugary. However i have enjoyed other songs when he has laid it on thick with the sugar.

lol thumbs up!

That's what I mean, though. Maybe I did go off on one there but it's just something I've been thinking about recently. I'd much rather someone say they didn't like a song because they just don't like it; there doesn't even have to be a logical reason. When I see comments from people saying it's not this or that, however - well, who cares? I'm sure Prince doesn't; he wouldn't release it, otherwise. That's the problem with being a proclaimed 'genius' - it seems everything he releases must be absolute perfection and ridiculous expectations are formed around that. Horses for courses, though.
