PRINCE AND TECHNO.

.

OK.
Techno is the disco of the last 10 years or so. You either love it or you absolutely hate it. The merits of which I wont' go into here.

However, indulge me in this notion. What if Prince released an all techno album.
Do you think he would just be following trends, or do you think Prince could probably pull off something original and fresh?

And just out of curiosity, would Prince releasing such an album finally prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that he has gay leanings?

maybe he'll do a techno album ten years from now or something, when he's deemed it old skool enough. shrug

maybe not techno so much, but some other experimental-electronica would be cool, with rock guitar, and new-agey vocals.... yeah

wait, "Digital Garden" is kinda like that, right?

Does anyone remember "Loose!" on the Come album. Prince can be said to be one of the fathers of house/techno just with Controversy alone. Loose! alone can show you that Prince can make a hot techno song.

He also had a great house mix of Beautiful and Come On...but they were relatively generic despite. shrug

i think most of his attempts at techno club music are really derivative, but damn if they aren't fun to dance to.

Yeah thats the one i was gonna say!

thee are a few on Emancipation disc 3...new world, human body...Beautiful remix was a bit lame, i HATE when R&B "producers" take a slow mid temp song, by like Destiny' child and speed it up like the damn chipmunks!

Anyways, Techno isnt prince's sound...like him doing hip-hop in 90-93 sounds like an outsider...

at least he tried...B+ 4 effort P!

Techno is hardly gay. Circuit/Diva House, yes... but Techno is pretty much straight/mixed.

if prince ever did circuit/diva house music, i'm afraid i'd have to get out the ol' storage boxes and pack up my purple goodies. that's the only style of music i truly cannot abide. munchkin music for people on uppers.

Prince's exposure to dance music seems awfully limited when you look at some of his past work that attempts to dip into that genre.

I think Prince's most convincing dance stuff was the House-influence on the 87/88 era, things like The Line, Le Grind and Escape.

Practically everything since has shown he doesn't really listen to dance music that much.

Only if Prince goes the whole hog and dresses like a Munchkin will I accept this new phase of his career.

Until then...

Back in '95 it was mentioned he was working on kind of a techno album entitled "New World" I'm assuming New World of course was on it and probably The Human Body, possibly Sleep Around 2 and of course they ended up on Emancipation. It seems like during this period he was experimenting with some techno/house songs, like Loose, Get Loose!, P. Control house mix, Beautiful, Come on (remix), Children Of The Sun, and even a little b4 like I Wanna Melt With. U. Maybe this was inspired by the Glam Slam club dancers and Mayte.

I agree with you there. I can always tell when somebody is doing it cos it will "help them get with the kids".

The only people that seem to be able to work in all areas of dance related music are Masters At Work IMO..... and maybe Jazzanova too.

While Prince has experimented with electronics he did a bit of it on Rave UN2 The Joy.

Prince loves gutair and soul too much to do an entirley electronic album.
He did a house song on Emancipation. I see him doing something more gothic or industrial.

While electronic music is very popular aroundthe world it still has to break the scene in the US. It could be over for his career here.Take Madonna, still huge in places like Europe but after she went electronic here popularity in the states went down.
Working up a purple sweat.

Prince was an electronica pioneer... The LinnDrum alone is enough 2 prove it.

Three albums:

Controversy
1999
Batman

notable mention:
unreleased 12 minute version of "Computer Blue", with famous "Hallway speech"...
"He's a musician's musician..."
