Thoughts on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

I just recently bought this cd for a $1.50. Thoughts on the album?

It's not his best, it's not his worst...it's still a Prince album, better than 99% of the rest of the music in the world 2day

Funny, to me, the title track is probably the worst thing on there.

I thought it was decent but dated. I actually dig the title track best. "The Sun, Moon and Stars," "Man O'War," and "Pretty Man" are the best tracks on the album. It was basically a condensed "Emancipation" in theme and quality.

It's dire.

The inclusion of one of the dullest previously unreleased songs as the title track is very apt.

I think I Love You But I Don't Trust You is one of his best. Other than that, I don't think it's flat out horrible but I certainly don't listen to it often.

Love it. Best song: Greatest Romance Ever Sold.
Worst: Everyday Is A Winding Road.

It's a poppy album with throwaways.

Not a bad album, really--but lacking "something".

I never listen to it.

I listen to the remixed version...Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic.

Best songs:
Pretty Man
Man O War
Beautiful Strange
Hot wit U
Undisputed
GRES
Sun Moon and Stars
Tangerine

Baby Knows & Everyday & So Far = ill

That said...I'm not sure why I don't listen to it more often...probably the same reason I don't listen to Musicology that often. However I can listen to The Chocolate Invasion & Slaughterhouse at any time.

I forgot Beautiful Strange! Another gem. I was so happy when he played it at one of the Paisley Park shows last year.

Undisputed is my Fav song, but i'm a huge Public Enemy fan, so the fact that Chuck D's on it makes it great. And "Hot wit U" is pretty good too.

I was disapointed that the year this came out i saw him on the Hit and Run tour and he didn't play a single song from the Album, I don't think P liked it very much himself.

yeah i totally dont understand why artists do that sometimes, same with the musicology tour as well tho, did he play cinnamon girl, a million days, icpc, reflection????

as for Rave era, the only tracks he performed a few times were GRES and Baby Knows. We will prob never hear any of that stuff again live! But then, thats an interesting thing...whats he gonna do now?? Coz he's retired the hits and he doesnt play much from the symbol era so therefore his next tour is gonna really suck.

On tour he did NOT play those songs (I heard that like in one show he played icp&c). Nor did he play Marrying Kind, If I was the man in your life, what do you want me to do.

and I have never EVER seen the man suck onstage. I don't care what the song list is.

There are a couple real gems on it, but as a whole it's a really weak album. Not much better than NPS.

The bad songs on it are just so bad! Sometimes almost comically bad.

Undisputed, Hot Wit U, Every Day is a Winding Road, and Baby Knows are absolute dog shit excuses for songs with either terrible lyrics, horribly plastic production, or both.

Hell, that's not to mention tacky touches to the album like the unnecessary guest appearances (which add absolutely nothing) or the advertisement placed on the album. Yes, there's an actual ad on the album. It doesn't get much worse than that, folks.

Not even the pretty lullaby Wherever U Go, Whatever U do and the beautiful, haunting I Love U But... can save this one.

average prince album.....i would say "prettyman" is a great song and "i love u but i dont trust u anymore", "whereever u go, whatever u do", "sun moon and stars"(terrible rap) are good tracks but the rest are pretty poor

He shoulda scrapped the original one and put out the remixed one.

I wonder how many have heard the remixed version.

I like most of the songs on the remix better, but I like some of the originals better too.

Like : Rave (title track), Hot wit U, Man 'o' war.

The remix album songs sounded too---erm, remixed.

I like the remix version, but I prefer the original.

The original actually sounded like you could have placed it on Diamond's and Pearls--say, in place of Jugehead??

But the remix version just sounded so..so.. plastic!

Rave, both Un2 and In2, just sounded so dead. They are to Prince, what I consider American Life is to Madonna--sylistic, acceptable, but not very emotionally riveting. shrug
