SO is she praising or hating? Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

So what's he supposed to do? Become an enabler and keep getting her out of jams, knowing she's going to go right back on the stuff? Sometimes, when people are on drugs and refuse to get straight, you just have to let them be, whether they are family or not. My opinion, but I speak from experience.

exactly. it's nothing more than tough love. you cannot help those who don't wanna be helped, sometimes.

You're right! I speak from experience also, and let me say that NOT being an enabler to a loved one who has problems is one of the toughest things in the world to deal with. Your heart will ALWAYS want to help them, but until they've taken responsibility for their own lives, your head HAS to make you stay out of it, for your own good as well as theirs!! If they'd stop attending that pity-party long enough, they'd realize that!

Okay, so she sold the car that Prince brought her for drugs.
Then, he paid for expensive rehab after she did this. And to thank him, she sells (I'm sure) this story to whatever paper it's posted in. Filthy cute and baby U know it

that's sad. not just her story, but the fact that she sold a car that P gave her, the tv that was for her kids, and then she sold the story to the Enquirer? It's all really nothing but tough love. she should thank her brother for helping her... the fact that he did help her. for all we know she probably did express her thanks, but you know how tabloids cut out certain things in order to get to just the "meat".

Say, did any of you folks buy Tyka's album from back in the day? I think it was around '88. Had the word "Blue" in the title (I think), but I never bought it myself.
Guess she didn't make any money off of the record. If so, she likely spent it on crack. [Edited 7/6/05 16:10pm] "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Oh man....she's led a rough life...but look at the picture, the resemble between Tyka and Prince is still evident...they look alike...

This is no reflection on Prince, despite the writer's attempt to contrast their opposite lifestyles.
Tyka has to take responsibility for her own welfare. How many hand ups must he give her before she uses them as stepping stones?

I hope everything is going well 4 Tyka now.
I'm glad that Prince was there 4 her and the kids and yes they both look like their mom.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I don't make anything close to millions and there is no way in hell my sister would be prositituting herself to help raise my nephews.
There's just no way. But, to each his own.

There's just no way. But, to each his own. But see .. how true is Tyka being? If she can fuck for bucks, she can not be too picky to get behind the register at McDonalds or pick up a broom. There are many jobs available for people in a pinch without a lot of skills. And yes TiffanyPoo, Prince was a good brother. We'll see how long TYKA will ensure her recovery lasts. [Edited 7/6/05 17:44pm] I'd have to believe that even McDonald's isn't looking to hire any crack bitches nowadays. I was thinking more along the lines of rescuing the children from the situation more than Tyka.

LOL.
Your original post portrays Tyka as a sympathetic figure forced to prostitute herself to care for her children. (Crack was not a part of the equation) So let's just deal with that theory. I'm saying I don't believe that was her true predicament. It's irrational to suggest prostitution as a viable means for child support. If you need to support your children, find a respectable occupation, such as McDonalds. Now, crack addiction is a separate issue which wasn't a part of your initial statement. And it shouldn't be. Because from reading Tyka's story I get the impression that she became a prostitute FIRST and her crack addiction stemmed from that. So, in theory she was not originally a crackhead and could have chosen McDonalds over prostitution. Anyway, as far as helping out the kids, sure that seems noble. I can understand family members wanting to rescue the kids. I'm sure I would have stepped in to do such a thing myself..

There's just no way. But, to each his own. I see your point, but this article only touches the surface of the situation. Who knows if Prince even knew that Tyka was prostituting herself at one point. I doubt she would have admitted it if he called her on the phone and asked "Hey, how ya' doing?" "Ya' know, Prince, same shit, different tricks. It's hard to feed a crack habit and kids, too." If that were the case, I'm sure he would have encouraged her to go to rehab a long time ago. He helped her out from time to time, but maybe Prince only thought that she was having financial problems. Lots of folks with crack habits keep it hidden. So maybe Prince would throw some money her way thinking she was buying groceries and Pampers with it when she actually wasn't. Ever watch COPS and see all the prostitutes on the show? Lot's of them still have parents and brothers and sisters who are still around, but how many of those crack whores' relatives even know that their daughters or sisters are working the streets and using drugs? (Sorry, I can't think of a better comparison. ) So I read this as "Prince bought me a car and gave me money, and I squandered it for crack," NOT "I was addicted to crack and working the streets, and Prince left me in the cold." It's all speculation, of course, and just my two cents worth. [Edited 7/6/05 21:13pm] "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Now that I read the article again, one part of it irks me. There's a line that says something like, "While Prince was building his empire and earning millions, his sister was often homeless..."
I remember an article in People magazine on Tyka years ago (late '80s) when her album came out. It showed pictures of her and her kids playing on a swingset. They looked quite happy and didn't look homeless at all to me. And if she were homeless at the time, surely it would have been mentioned in the article. Her fall from grace must have come much later than that. Not at the height of Prince's career, as the Enquirer implies. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"
