I liked the rap in come, and is gold but otherwise no.
I wish Prince would go back to electronic funk. He does that best.

Off the top of my head:
Y Should I Do That When I Can Do This Days Of Wild (at least one of the versions) Gett Off Violet The Organ Grinder Muse 2 the Pharaoh Good Life-remix TGRES-remix I'm probably in the minority here, but I think that rap is his BEST style.

I'm doing my very best to completely eliminate from my memory any Prince rap experiences.
Of course, I'm trying to do that with ALL rap. Rap peaked and should have died after "Rapper's Delight".

I like Prince rapping but not in Sign o the Times...it just rubs me the wrong way Prince says my name in one of his songs. In Little Red Corvette, he says, "Liz is on the verge of being obscene" Ha, ha, just kidding. But seriously.

Don't know why people critize him so much on this point... [Edited 7/4/05 0:04am] As a serious Hip Hop fan, it pains me to say that Prince never should have rapped ever. Although, he didnt do it often and "My Name Is Prince" is a fantastic song.

Rapping is not his thing. That is actually something he can't do.

How could I have forgotten to list that song!? GREAT song (in my top 5 of all time) and one of his best raps.

Irrisistable Bitch! When P raps old school in mid-tempo he can flow a little bit. When the tempo is 2 fast is where P looses it some times. He raps better than Madonna or MJ 4 sho! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

He's o.k., but not good.
Which is a real shame since he learned from the best---Tony M.

Ok, I will give you that . He was kind of jamming on that cut. I'm glad that P recognized HipHop in his work bcuz out of all of his 80's competition ex: Springsteen,MJ,Madonna, and Lionell Ritchie or U2. He's the only 1 who had the guts 2 try and style it in his fashion/image. MJ took the easy way out and hired the most popular rappers of the moment(Heavy"D" and Kriss Cross) just like sister Janet did. He might not have perfected his rapping but he understood that he could'nt ignore HipHop's influence. If u can't beat'em join'em. And that's what he did but in a way that only Prince could have done it."My Name is Prince" was definitely a highlight! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

I don't think in comparison to most respected rappers Prince comes out looking too hot , but I prefer Prince's rap songs to anything I've heard from
the likes of the Beastie Boys , Public Enemy , Eminem etc etc . I'd take Race , Face Down , Days Of Wild ,Y Should I Do That When I can Do This etc over an album of any other rappers best any day of the week , cos musically the songs appeal me to far more , I couldn't care less whether some other guy has better flow , rhyming skills , delivery etc , if the music isnt hitting my funky spot then the quality of the rapping is irrelevant . Generally, he is a 2nd rate m.c. but I do think he pulled it off on Days of Wild, Face Down, Sexy MF & Silicon (Does supafunkicalifragisexy count?).
He will never ever suck as bad as Tony M. that's for sure!!!

how is it everyone 4gets "NOW"...
prince's rapping skills r far better then, dare i say it, MOST of 2 days "younger superstars"....plus prince has them all beat on x-perience "DEAD ON IT" from the black album even disses gansta rappers..... thats the appeal of prince.....many styles....not pidgon-holed 2 one sound.... [Edited 7/18/05 6:14am] he's no good to me dead!

He wasn't a horrible rapper, but he sure wasn't a top-quality one, and he should have stopped trying to tackle the genre much sooner. Most of his '90s records are littered with rap/hip-hop and it's just annoying. Some may call it adding to his diversity; I call it selling out big-time and trying to tackle something he's not that great at.
"My Name Is Prince" and the rap in "Life O' The Party" are guilty pleasures, though.

hmmm some stuff he did was ok but bit corny and cheesy and it wasnt the kind of rapping hardcore rappers do. For me i cant really asscociate Prince with rapping
I grew up with those early albums...Dirtymind, 1999,etc I dont think rapping was something that was in Princ's early musical influences, when he did it a bit, to me it was more like he was getting on this bandwagon but i dont think its somethin he grew up around and to me Prince rapping seems a bit unatural.

Exactly thats how i kinda saw it, My Name is Prince ...was good but i dont know if its really rap, P.Control...was corny -cheesy, Now...was funky rap but not the kind of rap you really here rappers doing, its a reasonably cool song though.
