If Prince took a aqueous, steaming, DUMP ...

and it smelled really rank, which ONE album would mostly resemble it?

And if it smelled like roses, which ONE album would mostly resemble it?

My hunch is that the hated albums will mostly be agreed upon, but the favorites will be varied as can be--and they'll include some of the hated albums. nod

Rank smelling shit: NEWS

What a boring, boring album. I've tried and tried to let it grow on me, but there are less actual melodies here than a guy banging on a pot with a wooden spoon.

It sounds like Prince took lighthearted recorded practice sessions with his band, and then quickly added some extra touches and decided to release it as a CD to cash in on his hardcore fanbase.

Roses: Purple Rain

What isn't there to love about Purple Rain? Practically every song on it sums up why he's a genius.

Multiple themes seamlessly stringed together, clever metaphors, pure rockin' fun with that classic Princely attitude, salacious sexuality, heart stopping romance, engaging and addictive melodies; it's all here in one perfect package.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Musicology? eek

I always figured it was one of those not loved, but not hated albums.

And Rave gets completely mixed results. eek

I actually really liked the album at first.
Not becuase I thought it was "Great", but for the simple fact that it was accessable to the public, without sounding overly desperate to copy current trends (like Rave).

My issue with it is its lack of emotional involvement. The album literally sounds like Prince writing "Safe" songs taht will sound good in concert.

And I totally gave up on the damned thing when he released "Call My Name" as a single--PRINCE, GIVE IT UP--you're old school balads don't sell!!!!

I do hope that for future releases he acts more like an Artist trying new things than an old schooler much to comfortable in his own skin. shrug

Great picks--PARADE is my favorite albulm to listen too (Even though I think PR is a beter album), and LoveSexy has recently grown on me again. nod

Anyways, you haven't seen some of threads defending Rave?

I was stunned at how many people actually liked the album--yeah, it's detractors are vocal, but it's fans are out there.
