Ditto for these. Add in 'Around the World in a Day' and 'Parade' and you're missing my 5 favourite Prince albums!

I'm also a big fan of 'For You' and 'Prince'. They're a bit too disco in places for some people's taste, but contain some great guitar work.

If you like the 90s stuff, definitely get 'The Gold Experience'.

that's no collection .... just a couple of release.

You should at least own all the albums released in the 70's and 80's.

If you don't have the money to buy those essential recordings, than sell the crappy ones:

Emancipation
Crystal Ball
D&P
Batman soundtrack
The Scandualous Sex Suite (CD Single from Batman soundtrack)
Symbol Album
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic CD
When Will We Be Paid? (CD Single)
The Rainbow Children

Seems to me, you own much more crappy releases than essential releases!

For most artists, such a collection of albums would mean you were a hard-core fan. But since Prince is so prolific and has put out so many classic albums which are all very varied from each other, you are only in the mid-range of Prince fandom! The good news is that you have some fantastic music ahead of you to collect...

Definately need Around The World In A Day, Lovesexy, Sign O' The Times album & DVD and The Gold Experience at the very minimum.

To put your collection in the top bracket, you would need all the released albums, videos, dvds and a few choice live bootlegs plus an assortment of studio boots. Oh yes.

Indeed ... as time passes by, the crappy releases seems the dominate the essential ones ...
But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the 11 masterpieces from the 70’s and 80’s anymore .....

You dare to say that D&P is a masterpiece ... or is it a master-disaster?

Dirty Mind is boring and the songs are so bland they seem to blend together. Interesting lyrics in some places, but that's as provocative as it gets. And Do It All Night is basically a remix of I Feel 4 U
[Edited 6/29/05 1:57am]

.... I'm glad most critical (old-school) fans seem to agree with me ....
Too bad the newbee's seem to dominate the org nowadays, and the good-time-fans have disappeared. But what do you expect after 15 lousy years?

I don't care what anybody says ...
Dirty Mind is my favourite album of all time!!

little note .... Prince always played a lot of the DM tracks live .... even now!
seems to me that Prince agrees with me too!

a few good songs don't make a good album!
I can live with one crappy song .... but the crappy songs dominate the great songs on those albums ...

Of cause, I haven't sold the crappy albums neither ...

Looks like you've got a fairly varied collection to start with!. Here is what I think are the top 5 items you need next:

SIGN OF THE TIMES DVD: You'll get a better appreciation for the album once you see the film (make sure you get the Canadian version available from amazon.ca)

ONE NITE ALONE LIVE: An essential box set. His only official 'live' album from one of his best tours.

LOVESEXY: This is not music, this is a trip!!

NEW POWER SOUL: A lot of people on here don't like it, but I think it's his most underated album. It's a cool George Clinton-esque party album

MUSICOLOGY: It's a great little album, and a nice way to see the direction he is going in

There's nothing boring about shit. But shit is indeed funky. So just call Dirty Mind the shit, and you're on the right track.
