The first chord of a song isn't necesarily the key it's in.

Little Red Corvette is in the key of D ( 2 sharps)

and the chords are

Verse- | G A7 Bm7 Bm7/G |

Chorus- | G A D | G A Bm7 | G A D | G A |

the solo goes around the chords of the chorus and it's all played in the key of D (with Bm as the relative minor)

The original recording is in the key of Db (five flats).

The chord transcription you've given is a semi-tone too high (and the second and fourth chords of the verse are straight major chords)

Verse: Gb | Ab | Bbmin7 | Gb |

Chorus: Gb Ab | Db | Gb Ab | Bbmin7 | Gb Ab | Db | Gb | Ab |

The recording is in D. It's always played live in D also.
And the second chord is a dominant 7, the fourth chord is a minor 7 with a G in the bass. Surely you can hear this?
BTW, it's almost a straight rip off of Ryuichi Sakamoto-Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence theme tune.

You're correct on all accounts. Very good ear on the "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence" as well. Because of this, I also thought he bit on the title to a degree for Apples 6 "Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian".

Yeah man. God kinda uses a mixture of those chords too. I guess he must have been into that change at the time. Funnily enough, if you jam about with his version of A Case Of U, and mix in the Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence chords- u get a whole bunch of Prince stuff from that era.

Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence" is also recorded in Db major - and Prince did very well to rip it off given that he had recorded 'Little Red Corvette' in mid-1982, whereas Sakamoto's recording was only released the following year.

LOL. Oh man, you couldn't be more wrong with this if you tried. Next you'll be telling me C Jam Blues is in the key of B. Are you playing through some weird pitch shifter you're not aware of?
