Look at it as a sampler of the NPG Records acts roster (or to be NPG Records acts/hold-overs from the demise of Paisley Park). It was released shortly before Come.

If you like Prince's funky side you will like this album. I LOVE some of the songs on it like MPLS...that song is so funky...I have been listing to it alot latley. For six bucks you can't really go wrong can you? Also I love Mayte's song on there....even my boyfriend was like "This song actually isn't that bad!" He said even tho she can't sing there is something really charming about her voice! biggrin

I don't know why I'm being cheap. I'll just take the plunge. I'm starting to fill out the DVD collection and this came up. The next one like this is the Girl 6 soundtrack.

Thanks All biggrin

It's actually not a bad album, most of the tracks on it are written by Prince.
As MetroArea said, it's a sort of sampler album for artists on NPG Records.
The tracklisting is...

1. Minneapolis - MPLS
2. Hollywood - George Clinton
3. Love Sign - Nona Gaye & prince
4. If eye heart U 2night - Mayte
5. Color - The Steeles
6. 2gether - The NPG
7. Standing At The Altar - Margie Cox
8. You Will Be Moved - Mavis Staples
9. 17 - Madhouse
10. A Woman's Gotta Have It - Nona Gaye
11. Minneapolis Reprise - MPLS

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 are all nice cuts.

It's good. As a compilation of different artists, it's much better than Graffiti Bridge - partly because there's no pretentious over-riding "theme" hovering over the album.

I was dissapointed at first when i bought it but it actually grew on me.

Standing at the Altar and Hollywood are great tunes and i also think most of the other songs do have standout moments.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!
